Great boots, lasted 10 months.

These boots got used very lightly during the week, and extra heavy during most weekends for long hikes through Florida trails in sand, dirt, and mud. Good ankle support for versatile terrain, tread was never an issue, never slipped on wet rocks but I also didn’t test it often. Size I usually buy fit very well, 12w. A bit firm at first, but will break in. The pair lasted the 10 months with minimal care in cleaning (occasional brushing sand/dirt, keeping dry) Eventually the material started peeling and now the waterproofing’s compromised. Because of the waterproofing they run a little warm, but it’s worth the trade off on days after the rain not to have soaking wet feet.

Love My Keens

I've been buying Keen's for 16 years now and have gone through dozens of pairs of their hiking shoes. Lately, I have toned down my hiking, but I still like the Keen shoes for daily wear. I am a loyal Keen enthusiast not only because they make a great shoe, but once, in 2012, I had a pair of Targhee II that had a faulty eyelet that broke the first time I wore it. Keen promptly replaced the boots with no questions asked. That action by them made me a Keen customer for life. These Targhee III's are replacing another pair of Targhee III's that will now be relegated to yardwork only. These hiking boots have a relaxed feel - they are light and nimble (not heavy or clunky). I feel comfortable doing anything in these boots and that is why they are what I wear 80% of the time. My wife wears a more, 'traditional', hiking boot and she only wears those on the trail because they do well on the trail, but aren't great anywhere else. These Keens are champs on the trail and perform well in most other situations as well. I love that they are waterproof and that the soles are grippy. I have never lost my footing because of my Keens. If you've never worn Keens before, the toe box is large and roomy. My feet are narrow near the heel and normal up front - these boots are snug on my heel and leave room for my toes.

Best shoes you’ll ever have.….

I go through shoes like toilet paper. Live in the mountain with very rough ground. Walk miles a day. These shoes fit like you put your foot in a mold. I’m used to climbing muddy grass hills while slipping and sliding like I’m on ice skates wearing new Rocky’s but these shoes would climb an ice hill. Litterally stood in a dozen truck bed on a hill and felt as sturdy as baseball cleats on flat ground. You want good shoes go keen. Update. They have started to come apart and I haven’t even had the chance to be rough with them. It’s been about 3 months now. Very disappointed as they still fit and feel wonderful

Keen Quality Seems to be slipping
This is my 3rd pair of Keen mid heights in a row over the course of about 8 years now. The first two pairs lasted me a solid 3+ years each (I still have the last pair as my BS around the house/basement boots). Awesome boots that I got every cent I paid out of. I'm not through-hiking the Appalachian trail or hiking to Everest base camp in these, I'm just doing some moderate hiking, stuff in the yard, out to the store, hanging at the dog park, etc. Within 3 months the waterproofing was shot and my socks were getting wet. And I'm not talking water/mud up to the laces, literally any water over the top edge of the sole. I add my own waterproofing to all my boots (regardless of what the manufacturer says), since I don't like wet feet. Just a little over a year in and the sole is completely pulling away from the upper. A pair of boots should be able to hold up to at least 2 years of mild/moderate dog-dad hikes, yard work and time at the dog park. It's unfortunate because their boots always fit well, feel great on my feet and look good. I'm not a rich man, but I like spending my money on quality gear that I know will last me, and with that being my primary concern, I'll no longer be able to justify buying Keen boots.

Most comfortable for wide feet, if you get a good pair!

I bought a pair of these from a local outdoors type store, and liked them enough to order a second pair a month later from Amazon, so I could alternate. I take the dog out for walks/hikes twice a day, and sometimes go for up to 3 hours hikes on our local mountain trails. I have a hard time finding good shoes/boots that don't hurt my feet as I have a wide toe box, but narrow ankles. These were the only ones that didn't hurt the sides of my feet and that I didn't need to get special inserts to prevent pain in my feet. The grass is always wet in the mornings, and we often cross small streams on my hikes, and there have managed to keep my feet dry. The pair I got from the local outdoors store (big coop chain) had a slightly different insole color than the ones I got from Amazon. Within a couple months, or so, the ones from the local store where showing cracks in the material around the outside edges of the toe box, whereas the ones I bought from Amazon have not shown any signs of cracking at all. Other than the insole color, they look the same, but I'm guessing maybe they are manufactured in different places, one more cheaply than the other? After about a year, those cracks broke all the way through and that pair has gone into the trash, while the ones from Amazon are still going strong. After throwing away the bad pair, I bought another pair from Amazon (very recently), and they have the same color insole as the previous pair I got from Amazon, so I'm hoping they hold up as well as that pair, and I'm now swapping between the two pairs from Amazon.

NOT WATER PROOF!!!! Great fit.

This is my second pair. Word of caution, if you get them wet, the cheap plastic will disintegrate. It happened to my first pair and also to others that have them. Having said that. They are super comfortable, hence I ordered another pair. FWIW. I also tried on the new model, they are not as good. Too narrow, longer and look cheap.

Comfortable out of the box; however, NOT RECOMMEND.

I received these boots on 21 July 2023. My first pair of Keens. I was very pleased with how good they felt out of the box. I have been wearing them on short hikes (1 mile) each morning with my dog. The hike is on woodland paths and grass trails. Grass has heavy dew most mornings and the trails are uneven with plenty of roots, rocks, etc.. Although comfortable, after only one month of wear they quickly broke down on the sides and are NO LONGER WATERPROOF! A main reason I selected these boots were for their claim to be waterproof. Very big let down and I would STRONGLY recommend AGAINST purchasing these boots. Very disappointed.
