Only just received them so won't do 5 stars until I wear them a bit more. This is my 8th pair of Keen shoes in the past 13 years and my 3rd in the Targhee line. I have been very satisfied with the fit and finish of Keen products, so much so that they are the only brand I will trust to buy without first trying them on. I've tried Merrill and Timberland for hiking and they just weren't right for me. Every pair purchased has fit perfectly as long as you follow the size recommendations. I wear an 8.5 US mens shoe and have a somewhat wide foot. I use the Targhee for Spring to Fall hiking as they are light weight and somewhat breathable. They are waterproof so they aren't as cool on my feet as the mesh versions of Keen hikers but I prefer the dryness when hiking through streams. They are study and, I feel, provide a solid and stable connection to the terrain no matter what it brings. I'm also a fan of the Keen "toe protect zone" which adds a covering of hard rubber over the toes to keep them safe when you stub them on the trail (not the same as steel toe or composite toe which they do offer, I have a pair of Keen composite toe work boots that have saved my toes a few times). I live in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park region and we have rocks, streams, a river you may have heard of, mud and gravel trails and the Keens perform admirably. I highly recommend but, with anything, personal preference is key so make sure they are right for you.

I have owned several pairs of Targhees over the years and always count on Keen comfort and durability. I always recommend Keen to anyone looking for boots. I bought these for an early season hunting trip in Colorado and wanted to try out a Keen with the synthetic upper as opposed to the leather I'm accustomed. My feet tend to sweat easily and although I love my leather Targhees, I know my feet would be wrecked after a week of warm weather hiking with leather uppers. These fit perfectly and run true to size. I was surprised how much I like the monotone color scheme with this boot. The only possible negative is I'm unsure of the longevity with the synthetic uppers. It's very light and comfortable, but it feels cheaply made. I don't know if I get this impression because I'm used to their leather uppers, or if this is because this boot was made abroad with cheaper materials/workmanship. I believe the tag on the tongue said it was manufactured in the Philippines. Hopefully I didn't buy a knockoff. Regardless, I still like the boot and it's comfortable. I just hope they hold up.

I couldn’t decide between the Keen Targhee Exp mid (black waterproof – made in Vietnam) and the Merrell Moab 2 mid (black ventilator – made in Thailand) so I just got both. Since they are similar light-weight boots from major brands I will include a comparison here in case you are also considering both. I have owned these boots for only a short time and have only worn them as casual shoes so these are just my first impressions. Similarities: Both fit true to size and require only a short break-in period. Although I don’t have a wide foot I appreciate the wide toe box in both boots which means my toes are not scrunched together. Both have a stylish design that is appropriate for casual wear without looking like I just came in from the trail. Differences: The Keen has a stiffer sole and a more rigid ankle area. Therefore the advantage for support (which might be beneficial when carrying a pack) goes to Keen and the advantage for comfort goes to Merrell. Since the Keen boots have the Keen.Dry (a Gore-Tex competitor) membrane lining for waterproofing I was concerned that they might make my feet sweat. I may change my mind after a 10 mile hike but so far my feet have stayed dry. In conclusion, I like both boots and they have more similarities than differences.

I bought the Keen Men's Targhee Mid WP Hiking boot to replace one-year-old Keen Targhee II WP Hiking boots. The sole of the Targhee II was thick and soft, with sideways protruding lugs. The sole wore out on the outside of the heels a little faster than I expected. I walk on a lot of asphalt and concrete and it might be intended for softer surfaces. The Targhee Mid WP has a thinner, flatter, firmer-feeling sole without protruding lugs. The sole seems better for walking on the road and other smooth surfaces. I'm hoping for longer life from this sole; time will tell.

I have 3 pair of keen boots 1 for snow and I'm a volunteer Backcountry Ranger I put in hundreds of miles on boots and 1 pair for work I spend 16hrs a day in my work boots these are perfect I put in 18 to 20 miles a day in wet and muddy conditions and they are warm and dry and extremely comfortable day 1 I put 22 miles in on new boots with no problems at all I've gone tru 3 other waterproof boots and none did the job I'll only buy keens from now on
