  • Stiff like it should be
The shoe needs a short break in period. The upper part of shoe is stiff. The laces are not smooth, which helps with keeping it tied. Great shoe for the price.

  • Good boot but
Stiff and uncomfortable out of the box. Mine came with a nice lump under the right foot. Walking for an hour produced an agonizing effect. With very step that lump pushed into the sole of my foot. Im hoping there will be some break-in adjustment. Im tempted to wedge a stone in the boot when not in use to flatten that lump down. Other than that the boots are incredibly light. Thats the first thing that I noticed. I think these are the lightest boots Ive ever worn. They look sharp and seem well made. Its just that darn lump...maybe I just got unlucky? Lump aside, I would say these are not a boot that you would pull out of the box and take on a long hike. They are rather stiff. The problem with reviewing an item like this after only having it for a week is that you have no experience with how the thing performs over its life. I intend to continue to wear them on short local jaunts and around town in the hopes of breaking them in. I will come back and edit my review if I can in a couple months in order to provide a more useful and thorough long term review. Edit 12/1/21; OK I have had the boots for 10 months. The offending "lump" smoothed itself out after a couple of weeks of wearing the boots. They did break in nicely. I wear the boots alot. I live on a farm and they are are my 'go-to' footwear. I like light hiking type boots because I can stay on my feet longer in better comfort than work boots. The downside of that is that they break down faster. The boots have started coming apart a little. The bottom of the sole needed to be "reglued" about 6 months into use. Also these boots are not water-proof at all. At most, I could say the waterproofing wore off within a month. After a few months they offered absolutely zero water protection. So, over all pros; Sturdy Look good Good support comfortable after break in very light weight Cons; Not waterproof Uncomfortable out of the box Sole needed regluing after 6 months of regular use ... show more

  • Great Value
I bought these for light hiking/day hiking. I chose Shitake/Brindle. My first pair immediately developed a separation at the seam during a very light hike on the North Country Trail. Even with the separation, I was able to walk through creeks and streams without issue. Not wanting to take a chance, I contacted Amazon and they shipped me a new pair with no questions asked. My replacement pair has not exhibited separation and have held up well. At 2.5 lbs, they're heavy. A heavy 2.5 lbs. Technically, the Targhee II Mid is a lightweight. But stability is a concern and that lack of stability makes them feel heavier than they are. They are rock solid at the toe, and mid ankle, but miss above. At that point, you want to go midweight. That doesn't mean that the Targhee II lacks comfort... far from it. My toes are protected, my feet stay dry, and I can wear them for 8 hours. For less than $100, you'll get your money's worth. ... show more

  • Broke after a month and a half of moderate use
I bought these to replace a pair of Keen's that I used weekly for almost a decade. My first pair were incredible. Super waterproof, super comfortable, no pressure points (I could hike 30 miles in 2 days with a full back and come out without a single blister), and lightweight. I couldn't find the same kind again, so I went for these instead. Thy fit as expected, and were very good at keeping water out. I recently went on a 10+ mile snowshoe trek over the continental divide and no snow moisture was able to penetrate them. I did experience a bit of a pressure point on the insides of my big toes rubbing against the boots, but it was relatively minor and only became a problem after 8+ miles. I used these books for hiking on a weekly basis and for walking my dog in the snow on a daily basis. After less than two months of normal use like this, one of the straps that the laces go through ripped right out of the shoe, making it impossible to tie the shoe tight and rendering them effectively "totaled." I'm very disappointed with the durability of these boots. For what they cost, they should ABSOLUTELY last longer than this (really, any boots should last longer than this). It's too late to try to get them returned via Amazon, so I'll be contacting Keen to see how they plan to fix this. Like I said, I absolutely loved my last pair of Keens. They were super comfortable and lasted freaking forever, so this pair's shortcoming was definitely a surprise to me. ... show more

  • Impressed
I've been wearing these for a few days now and I am quite impressed. I normally wear an 8.5EE but could not get these in that size. With Amazon's free return policy, I took a chance and ordered them in 9D. Due to Keen's generous toe box these fit like they were made for me. They are also very light weight. I wore these to the range and the woods yesterday. I spent several hours on both rifle and archery ranges that were soaked with heavy morning dew. My feet stayed bone dry in those conditions. Great traction in the woods and while climbing deer stands for maintenance. Only reason they aren't getting 5 stars today is because I have only been using them for a few days. This score may go up after I used them longer in a greater variety of conditions. ... show more
