This is my 3rd pair in 3 years. I wear them 98% of the time. I am a brewer and they withstand everything we put on the floor. Last me a year or more and I just replace because I literally wear them out.

I just received the new pair of low-cut Keen Targhee II shoes and so of course don't know whether they'll prove as durable as previous pairs I've owned and worn out. Thus the four-star rating. If this pair lasts a couple of years, I'll come back and add a fifth star (if someone reminds me). I get two years' use, or more, out of a pair, with everyday and sometimes very hard use. That typically includes at least one trip on which I do a lot of walking, on pavement and hard floors, and on paths and some trails, sometimes with a backpack. The new pair was made in the same place as my now-wearing-out pair (Thailand), for what that's worth, and the initial fit and finish appear to be fine. About sizing: I've found much variability in sizing, seemingly depending on the brand, type of shoe, and place of manufacture. I usually wear a US size 13, but for the Targhee II a 14 fits me just right. I really like having an ample toe box; I don't slide around inside the shoe at all on non-level surfaces. I haven't tried the Targhee IIIs, which reportedly are somewhat more flexible than the IIs. I like the solid platform and stability and support of the IIs so will stick with them. And the IIs I've had really are waterproof, at least to a depth of two or three inches. One tradeoff is that with the pretty aggressively textured or cleated soles, you're going to have a lot of whatever you've been stepping in -- mud, animal-produced land mines, or whatever -- clinging to the bottom of the shoes and will likely need a hose for cleanup before going indoors. Another tradeoff might be that some might find the shoes a bit on the heavy side. I don't; anyway, you can't have shoes be as stout and durable as Targhee IIs and also be ultra-light. Perhaps other brands of so-called walking or medium-duty hiking/backpacking shoes (Merrill, Salomon, etc.) are just as good or better -- I can't say, because I haven't tried them. The Targhee IIs are the best shoes I've found yet for overall utility, performance, and durability, far better than what used to be called "sneakers" or athletic shoes.

The fit was good and shoes are comfortable. I have had Keen shoes in the past and they lasted. These are not comparing well to previous versions. The tread is separating after very little use. I have literally not had a single "hike" in these shoes. I would not recommend. In comparison, the Oboz (Bridger low) that these were meant to replace are completely destroyed (after much abuse), but the tread is firmly in place. Again, I would not recommend.

2nd pair of these. Bought the first pair in Fairbanks AK and wore the snot out of them. The lugs came off of them after years of hard use. I still wear them to in the yard even with tons of shoe goo on them. These the lugs came off just as I had owned them for a year. Mainly wear to shoot skeet in 3 times a week. I have Shoe gooed them 3 times already. Not like the first pair!

My husband will only wear Keens, so we knew when we ordered these would be "keepers". They shoe is sturdy with great traction and having the bigger toe box with the outside rubber really saves your toes from kicking into rocks and roots when hiking. Also great they are waterproof. Have not tested the waterproofness but I have high hopes.
