I have previously purchased KastKing fishing line and apparel (and was happy with it) , but this was the first KastKing fishing reel I have tried. I must say - I really like it. Extremely smooth, light and a joy to use. On a recent trip to the lake it handled everything from 14" - 17" bass up to a 30" Tiger Musky. The drag was really only tested on the musky, but performed wonderfully. I have my reel (3000) spooled with 20# braided line and it casts great. (I have it on a St Croix Mojo Bass, 7' Fast rod and it is a great all purpose rod/reel). Love the looks of the reel, especially the carbon fiber handle. If I could change one thing, it would be the names of the KastKing reels - I am personally not a fan of some of the the funky names ("Megajaws", "Megatron" etc). Other than that small, inconsequential and totally personal complaint, I'd highly recommend this reel. ... show more

Used this spinning reel over the weekend and very pleased with the casting and retrieving capabilities. I placed 20lb. Kast King Hammer Braid on it with 15lb Kast King FlouroKote leader. I placed it on an older med heavy rod, which is not correct and will be purchasing a new rod to pair with this reel. I unfortunately didn't get to use the drag as the bass weren't biting on a Texas rig over the weekend. Before I would give this a 5 star review I would need to fight some fish on it, but I don't feel it would have any problems handling it. Looking forward to using it more and trying it on some coastal reds. Would recommend ... show more

So I decided to give salt water fishing another try and I needed a new reel. Since I really like my Kast King fresh water setups I figured I’d give their 3000 series a try. Out of the box I was hyped with how clean the reel looks and how light it actually is. Reel size i a big factor being that I’ve had wrist surgery. I believe I won’t have any issues while using the MegaJaws. Being bales to have the extra line is a plus since I’ll be using a heavier line. Reeling it is so smooth and effortless. I loaded this reel up with 30lb braid and I'm very happy with it. It's really light for it's size, and the cast and retrieve are smoother than any of my other reels. This will work great next salmon season for drifting. It's waterproof - but I have not been brave enough to dunk it in water and test this out :). This will happen by accident sooner or later though. Pros + Casts smoothly with no issues + Bail releases and closes at the right thresholds for casting. Opening and closing the bail for casting is effortless. It locks up just far enough back so it does not interfere with the line, but does not introduce too much travel when it's time to close it. The locking mechanism is solid - I didn't run into any issues with the bail closing on it's own when casting. + Drag is consistent and reliable. It does not 'stick' initially, as you sometimes see on some reels. + Lightweight Cons/Other Notes + Does not have a reverse. This is likely to make the reel more waterproof. For me it's a good tradeoff - as I never use the reverse feature. But for some it may be inconvenient. ... show more

Right out of the box this reel looks and feels awesome. Love the weight, color, and how smooth the reel spins. Not crazy about the bail return; if you get a run at it the bail returns ok, but if you're close to the return mechanism, it can hang and you have to flip it by hand. I have been a KastKing fan for years and own a lot of their products, but this is the first reel. Absolutely impressed! It is lightweight, and ridiculously smooth, with a super smooth drag. As a custom rod builder, I’m always looking for great reels that are lightweight and are balanced for the rods.     • Critical design flaws. A $50 Daiwa reel is better.

Normally you would say you get what you pay for when talking about low end reels (which is exactly what these are) However at the price point these go for you definitely don't get what you're paying for. I wanted to give Kast King another shot after previous issues I had with their casting reels that I purchased for low end junk fishing set-ups, I now regret it...again. I bought two Megajaw Elite's with tournament spools to pair with cheaper Megabass Levante rods, Whipsnake for dropshots and Shakeyhead for heavier Ned rigs. Upon swapping the handles for right hand retrieve I immediately noticed the dust caps would not properly screw into the left side of the reel as they did on the right side for left hand retrieve. You would only get 2 threads in on both reels. One dust cap backed itself out on the 3rd cast going overboard of the boat. The other dust cap backed out and luckily stayed in the boat. The next issue is the "10+1 bearings" you should already be aware that having that many bearings isn't necessary especially when you're using low quality bearings such as the ones in these reels. A $50 Daiwa reel is infinitely more smooth with better build quality and is easily identifiable when placing the two reels side by side. If you put any other reel from Shimano, or Daiwa next to these at the same price point it makes the megajaws almost laughable. And finally closing the bail is almost impossible with the reel handle. I rarely will ever do it because it's much easier and accurate to use your freehand to close the bail. But with these reels you don't have the option. Long story short the reels are being returned and i will stick to reputable brands such and Daiwa, Shimano, and 13. ... show more
