I am admitting up front that I don't sew, but wanted a big pair of scissors to have around. I saw them in a photo of the artisan in Australia who makes the neck ties that I wear . These are magnificently constructed and scary sharp and well fitted. Can't tell you how they work on fabric or how they would be to use all day, but maybe I'll take up sewing to find out. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. We are an upholstery shop which almost exclusively uses Kai scissors. We normally purchase them from our local sewing shop, but I just went ahead and ordered this pair for one of our guys off Amazon on a whim. Almost immediately noticed some issues: the tips of the scissors are not pointed--they're rounded off. And the scissors just are not cutting through material through the center of the blades. I'm including images and video showing the difference between the "new" scissors and a MUCH older pair, which have been sharpened numerous times. The larger 7280s in the still images are the "new" scissors. You can see the difference in the logos. In the video I used a third pair to cut fabric, they were even bigger than the 7280s, they are the 2nd pair I use and clearly cut through the fabric with no issue. These are used heavily (5 hours a day, 5 days a week) and are at least 3 years old. The new (smaller) pair can't even make a clean slice. I'm not sure if they were improperly sharpened at some point (where???), or maybe they're "seconds"? Either way, a brand new pair of Kais is a beautiful sight, and these are simply *not* it. They're going back, and we'll stick to our local guy. tl;dr, and to sum up--I hate to say it, but my gut says these were either already used and returned or something else. Wow. These are the best scissors I have ever used. If upholstering is your job or making, drapes, clothing, or cutting insulation these are a must have. Excellent product. Can’t stress enough how well these cut. You can hold them open and push them thru cloth. Amazing.
