  • Good value filter - 20 Stops might be a bit too dark.
Size: 77mm
Bought this for the upcoming solar eclipse. This filter came in a nice protective case and the overall quality of the filter is great. No problem with threading it onto a 70-200 Canon 2.8 lens and the cover snaps right on. Now this is a really dark filter. In fact unless you have a full on view of the sun without any obstructions you won’t be able to get a bright photo unless you are using a higher than 100 iso, low shutter speeds, or high aperture rates. Ideally you want to shoot F5 or F8 at 100 iso and 1/100+ shutter speeds but it’s quite dark at that setting. I did end up buying the cheaper 16.6 ND but it hasn’t come in yet. I would say that’s the better filter to go to so you can use higher shutter speeds or lower isos. Attached is an unedited photo along with a slightly edited version. This was on a clear day at high noon. With a little editing it was great but it’s still a bit darker than I wanted. If you can, get the 16.6 nd instead. ... show more

  • Phenomenal filter for solar photography.
Size: 72mm
For the price I paid, this filter absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. I bought this in preparation for the solar eclipse in Maine this year using a Tamron 70-300mm Nikon lens. I didn’t notice any vignetting with my set up but I’m also pretty new to photography and I was shooting the sun so it was pretty much black everywhere minus the sun itself. Image quality is great, there is some noise when shooting in such low lighting but is easily fixed in processing. Only down side is it’s a screw in filter so in a shot that requires little time frame it can be stressful removing it and putting back on when needed. For the $40 I spent on this, 100% best purchase I’ve made in years. ... show more

  • Worked great for the 2024 eclipse!
Size: 77mm
With 20 stops, it worked great protecting my camera. This was super dark and sometimes hard to find the sun, but this was my 1st time using a filter, and it help me get some great shots in the end! I played around with it before the eclipse and one time I did have problems unscrewing it and a little freak out moment. ... show more

  • Decent filter for the price
Size: 77mm
Worked just fine for the eclipse. Is indeed dark but was easy enough to compensate with my Z8. For solar photography I’d say for 25 bucks you can’t go wrong. Will say, the screw build is not great, so it’s a bit of an issue getting in and especially getting off if you tighten it a bit. Never had this happen with my other higher quality filters. Just be careful. ... show more

  • Solar filter doesn't turn the image orange
Size: 72mm
I needed a solar filter once we decided we'd try to view the April, 2024 solar eclipse...weather permitting...since I have replaced both the camera and the lens that I used for the previous eclipse (2017). Weather permitted, and the filter worked well. Can't really say the same for the camera + lens (focus issues that I occasionally have, even without a filter), but the solar filter worked well. I appreciated the lack of colorization of the sun (it looks light gray in the properly-exposed images, while my previous filter made the sun look orange or yellow orange). Sunspots were visible, too, so I may use the filter occasionally for sunspot photos in the future. The filter can also be useful with or without a camera to view very bright lights. The filter came with a nice hard-plastic protective case that is easy to use. It also included a couple of cleaning cloths that I haven't used, so can't really describe here. ... show more

  • Eclipse Photos turned out Great!
Size: 52mm
Fit my lens perfectly. Worked as advertised. I’ll keep using it for sun pictures. But it is a one note tune. Won’t need it for eclipses for a long time. The price was right for this one off.

  • Worked correctly for its usage
Size: 95mm
I purchased this for the reason of taking pictures of the solar eclipse in 2024. It worked as it should and I can certainly say that I do not have any issues with my Canon cameras after using it on the solar eclipse. So, I'm happy with the one time ever purchase and usage.

This lens worked perfectly for taking pictures of the solar eclipse. My husband took some amazing pictures. Definitely not disappointed. I highly recommend it!
