Started using this after switching our dog to a homemade diet and wanting to make sure she was still getting balanced nutrition without me trying to calculate everything myself from scratch. Vet mentioned a lot of homemade diets fall short on certain vitamins if you're not careful, so this seemed like an easy way to cover that gap. Powder mixes in easy with her food, doesn't clump up or leave a weird texture she tries to pick around like a couple other supplements we've tried. She eats it without hesitation, which was my biggest worry going in since she's picky about anything that changes the smell of her food. Container's resealable and stores fine in the pantry, hasn't gone stale or clumped from humidity in our kitchen. Hard to say definitively how much of a difference it's making internally, obviously, but her coat has looked a little shinier the past couple months and her energy seems consistent. Portioning scoop included makes dosing simple too, not something I have to guess at every time. Only minor complaint is the container is a little awkward to scoop from once it gets under half full, ended up tilting it a lot to reach the bottom. Would recommend if you're doing a homemade diet and want peace of mind, though definitely still worth checking in with your vet on your dog's specific needs rather than relying on a supplement alone. Doesnt seem to have a taste but smells like beef. Its not cheap but a must have for making your own food. ... show more

I have been feeding my dogs homemade dog food for a while now but have always doubted if they were complete and balanced. I am very glad I found out that Just Food for Dogs is offering the DIY kits! What a wonderful concept! Cooking food for your pups, made of fresh, whole ingredients, and adding the appropriate minerals to make it nutritionally balanced. I have 2 senior dogs (18 & 15 yrs old), they absolutely love the food, the increase in their energy is noticeable, and are healthy. I don't necessarily use it as directed. I just sprinkle a little on my dog's food for each meal. He eats the food without hesitation and seems to enjoy it. Since he can be a finicky eater and is easily turned off by smells, I guess that's a good sign.

This dog food kit is wonderful! We no longer feed our 13 yr old put bull dog food kibbles, this is our go to dog food! Our dog now has solid firm poop, no gas at all, his coat is shiny, he smells better, he absolutely loves the taste of this food! The vitamin kit is great cuz we know he is getting all the right nutrients! We buy 20lbd pounds of cod at a time from a local fish wholesale plant, and the veggies at safe way or food max. One batch is about 4-5 days worth for our 75 lbd pit bull...we give him 13 oz 3x a day. After a solid year of this meal kit from just for dogs inwill never buy traditional dog food again! This is the best! It’s not hard to make and I often make 2-3 batches at the same time and freeze it in Tupperware containers...it’s good for 3 days in fridge and 6 months in freezer. I pop it in the microwave to heat it up slightly before feeding him. Do not use potato’s that are green on outside! Potato’s need to be fully ripe with no green parts! ... show more

I was at the end of my rope trying to find quality dog food that my picky pup would eat. He is 14 and has health concerns. It is hard to find food with low fat and low protein (and quality). I came across this product and thought “great”. I gave it a go. They provide the recipe and the ingredients aren’t hard to find. Not a lot of ingredients either, very controllable amount during grocery shopping. I get to pick the quality of food and know what’s in my dogs food. My dog can’t eat too much protein or fat so I kinda reduced the meat and increased veggies. Their recipe has a “half recipe” option, which was what I did. I got several meals out of the half recipe (like a week). My picky little man loves it and I love controlling the quality of his food. . Ive been cooking for over a month now. I cook on the weekend and freeze for the upcoming week. Meal prep for pups! ... show more

I have two dachshunds with allergies one has severe food allergies. I have been making their food but was concerned that they were not getting the nutrients they need I started to use this product.
