My daughter is 10 years old and I've always told her she can tell me anything. When I found this journal, I thought I'd give it a try. Not only has it created a special bond between us, but she feels more open to write down questions or ideas to share with me that may otherwise be too embarrassing for her to share otherwise. She'll write in it and put it on my nightstand. I make it a point to give her the advice she needs or just tell her an equally embarrassing story so she doesn't feel alone. I make it a point to get it back to her night stand as soon as possible so she feels like it's important enough and that I truly do care about what she's thinking and feeling. Too often we get so busy and wrapped up in other things, we forget these little humans we're raising really need our undivided attention! They don't seem to have one of these books for "Mom and Son" but my 8 year old son soon wanted this special bond also. I purchased a regular "manly" looking journal and wrote a very special message on the inside cover for him. He's my tough child. The one that fights back with everything. I cannot believe the change in him almost immediately after starting the journal. He was daddy's boy almost his entire 8 years. Now we have such an amazing bond because he feels he can tell me anything. His first entry was about a girl who likes him at school. It was my chance to write down how special girls are and the right way to treat them. We do a lot of different things, like at dinner we ask what their favorite part of their day and the worst part. I tell them everyday to make sure they do at least one act of kindness a day, but more importantly I ask them what they noticed someone did for them as an act of kindness. I want them to keep their eyes and hearts open to realize there is good in the world and it happens everyday to all of us. Even doing these little things, I wanted something more and these journals are perfect! If you haven't don't this yet and want a way to bring you and your children closer, I highly suggest doing this. All the great advise my mom taught me before she passed away can now be shared in words with my children and they seem to hold on to the words better than if I spoke them. ... show more

First and foremost I'd like to say that this journal is beautifully crafted. My daughter just turned 13 and I wanted to get her journals to express herself but when I saw this I just had to buy it. I thought it would be a great idea and I hoped she would think so too. Let me just say if you won't commit to writing back then don't bother but if your willing to be open and commit this is a great way to open up w her and communicate w out the awkwardness of some topics whether it be on your end or her end. Needless to say she loves it and she's always anxious for my reply we started this a week ago and we both love this journal and are looking forward to continuing it. 😊 ps. I love the bookmark strings that let's us both know where I left off and where she needs to start. Very creative and well thought of journal. ... show more

I was so excited to gift this journal to my 10 year old daughter for Christmas, and anticipated that it would be a breath of fresh air. I was hopeful for an outlet for us to connect in a deeper way. It certainly has done just that, but it has exceeded my expectations. We are just a few entries in, but it has flipped a switch and my daughter that normally internalizes her thoughts is downright chatty and excited to talk to me about what’s going on in her world. Turns out that writing really resonates with her and has provided her a really healthy medium to work out her feelings and thoughts- especially in these pre-teen years where body changes and emotions are accelerating. This is a precious investment in our relationship and I can’t wait to see what is in store. The journal is a really nice blend of writing prompts to get the conversation going and free space. The format is inviting and exciting. I bought a fun set of non-bleed colorful pens that are nice to write with to accompany the journal - highly recommend that as it makes it feel even more special. ... show more

Love this journal!! Started using it with my 11 year old about a week ago. She absolutely loved the idea of being able to privately "talk" and share with me. We do talk and share in real time however with a sister 2 years younger and very hectic school/sports/work schedules this gives us an opportunity for private conversations when there may not be physical time for them. She also happens to love to read and write so it's creative as well. This has been a rough year with friends, going from being one of the in the "group" for the past 4 years to a shift in friendships. So many changes in personalities, relationships, horomones etc that I'm hoping this helps maybe ask those questions she may be a little nervous about saying out loud at first. We typically have a very comfortable time communicating. This isn't meant to replace that but a way to share differently. She writes in it before bed, I feel it helps get those things nagging out of your mind and helps you sleep as a bonus, then leaves it on my nightstand. I read and write back and leave it in hers so she can read it when she wakes up. I would recommend this as a start and maybe just decorate some notebooks after to continue on. Great, creative idea for moms/daughters. Hoping this is something we can continue and maybe something my younger daughter will do as well.
