was pleasantly surprised by how high-quality this JUPEAN Book Binding Kit is, especially for someone just getting into bookbinding. The book press itself is sturdy and far superior to most DIY presses you’ll find on the market, making it well worth the price. The set comes with all the essential tools for a beginner, including a bone folder, ribbon, needles for sewing, and several other items that make getting started much easier. I was able to assemble my own notebook with copy paper and card stock, and I even used the press to restore the cover of a book from 1907. As someone who is entirely self-taught from online tutorials, I can say this kit gives you a real head start compared to most beginners. My advice for new bookbinders is to practice on inexpensive materials first and even try restoring a vintage book from a bookseller—but avoid spending too much on your first project, and don’t attempt anything you truly care about until your skills improve. Overall, this kit is a fantastic way to get started in bookbinding and provides tools and quality that will last through many projects. Highly recommended for beginners or hobbyists. ... show more

I’m a beginner at bookbinding, and this kit came with an impressive amount of useful material for getting started. It includes the basic tools and supplies needed to experiment with making simple bound books, so I was able to complete my first project without having to purchase many separate items. The variety of tools made the process feel much more approachable, and the kit is a good way to learn which supplies you will actually use before investing in more specialized equipment. My first book turned out successfully, which made this feel like a very worthwhile starter set. The main item I wish it included is PVA or a similar bookbinding glue. That would have made the kit feel more complete for a beginner who may not already have suitable adhesive at home. I used Tacky Glue for my first project, and it worked successfully, but including proper binding glue would be a helpful improvement. Overall, this is a generous and useful kit for someone who wants to try bookbinding without buying every tool individually.     • Board snapped in two after extensive use, but the boards in the kit make this the best starter kit

You get what you pay for quality wise. The boards worked fine for a time, but after some extended use, the top board actually snapped in half. I was able to make due with some clamps I had around the house, but it was not thrilling. The extra stuff that comes in the kit is nice to experiment with, and is a good getting started point. The fact that the kit includes book-board so that you dont have to go buying a set of 25 makes this one of the best choices for the kit. Just be aware with any of these kits, you get what you pay for. Once you snap the press, if you ever do, then you can consider upgrading to something sturdier. ... show more
