I purchased a Steam Deck for my partner for Christmas and wanted to do a shell swap. I was intimidated by a full swap, so opted for just the back. It’s quick straight forward, remove screws, pop cover off, etc. I did struggle with popping the cover off the back. It took a bit of trial and error (and eventually watching TikTok videos). It’s all about where you start! Look at videos if you’re struggling and don’t give up. The final product is gorgeous and worth it.

The backplate came with everything needed for installation which was easy and straightforward. Color is great and quality is top shelf. Fitment near perfection, the additional center vent is slightly offset from the fan inside the steamdeck. Purely aesthetic though as the steamdeck runs noticeably cooler with the additional vent. Definitely recommend.

Let me preface this that I normally love jsaux products. They make some of the best steam deck accessories and cables on the market in my opinion. I owned this exact replacement backplate for my original LCD Steam Deck and had no problems whatsoever. That wasn't so this time around for the OLED replacement shell. I was very happy initially but quickly realized that my R1/right bumper would only actuate when clicked from the very center and I had to press extra hard. After some trouble shooting I ended up having to use a Dremel to sand away multiple millimeters of plastic at a time trying to find what was causing the back plate to interfere with the R1 button. On top of that, the two screws on the right side of the backplate have to be loosened many threads or else the problem still occurs. I suspect some factory tolerances are poor and my right side created friction/prevented the ease of actuation for the button behind the right bumper. It ended up being somewhat of a nightmare having to uninstall the shell multiple times, and I'm not particularly skilled with the Dremel and it's now a bit unsightly. This is definitely the worst experience I've had with a jsaux product and that makes me a bit sad because normally I can expect quality when I purchase one of their products.

The backplate looks great, but the alternate triggers it came with aren’t good for any thing because one of the screws won’t come out. Meaning one side has different triggers than the other. Bummer
