I was looking for a decent quality 36" level that wasn't made in China and really didn't want to pay for a Stabila or Sola level. I somehow stumbled across this level that is made in the USA and for $27. It's lightweight aluminum I-beam body makes it very light and the magnetic is strong enough to hold itself to any ferrous metal. The vials are easy to read. I recommend this level who wants a quality level and doesn't like supporting slave labor in China. ... show more

The level I received was NOT the Johnson 3818. First of all, the level I received was not magnetic. It also did not look anything like the level pictured on the Amazon website or the Johnson webpage.. It had a paper label on it with the Johnson 3818 model number, but it was NOT that level. It was a cheap, basic aluminum level with plastic end caps. It's on its way back to Amazon. UPDATE: I took a chance that the fulfillment of my first order for this level was simply a mistake and I ordered the same level a second time. Unfortunately, I received the same imitation level from Amazon (photo attached) the second time that I received the first time. After returning the second level to Amazon, I ordered the product from a different web site and received the correct product. There's a huge difference between the REAL Johnson level and the piece of junk I received TWICE from Amazon. If you take a chance and order this from Amazon, here's a simple test - if the level you receive is plain, brushed aluminum (see photo), it is NOT the genuine level.     • Great tool to have in one’s kit, and good value for the money

This level appears to be manufactured with precision, and to be accurate and sturdy. I used it initially to assist in the relocation of a towel rack in one of my bathrooms that a guest had incorrectly used as grab bar, and pulled out of the wall. The old one had been sloppily or hastily installed anyway, and as a result, was not close to being level. With the aid of this tool, I marked the location for the screw holes 24 inches apart and reinstalled the rack perfectly level. I next used it to install a series of knob pulls on some kitchen cabinet drawers. Although I measured down from the lip of the drawer ends (2 per drawer) using a plastic template, I double checked and adjusted the drill holes very slightly with the level, to allow for the fact that the drawer itself was not perfectly horizontal. This way to the naked eye, the pulls looked perfectly lined up. The 3 foot length was perfect for both of these jobs, and was a size not readily available in retail stores. It's a level, but a good one. A magnetic strip along the full length of the edge is very convenient. The bubble glass is held in place and does not move. The other side (without the magnet) is cleanly finished and makes a great straight edge. It's light yet substantial. No buyers remorse here.

Limited use so far but it has worked out fine. The picture must be a different model from the one I got. Mine has two level indicators for horizontal and they match. There are three indicators for vertical and they match. The readings I got compare well with my other (shorter) levels. Paint seems to mar easily but I don't think it affects the accuracy. ... show more

Well constructed and seems very accurate when compared to other high-quality levels I own. While the magnetic strip is not 'super-powerful,' it seems to have about the right strength to keep it in place for most situations where that would be helpful.
