  • Great value, no regrets!
Style: Lathe Pattern Name: Wood Lathe
After much deliberation and comparison shopping, I landed on the Jet 1840. I chose it over other lathes in the same size/price range due to several factors that met my personal preferences/needs, as well as being greatly swayed in the end by the 5 yr warranty. Had it for over a month now, no regrets. Upgraded from a Nova Comet II, my 1st lathe. Wanted greater capacity/swing and more HP. Great machine I have a hard time imagining myself outgrowing. Overall, very happy with the 1840. I was a little disappointed in the finish/quality control on some cosmetic aspects. There was a significant amount of overspray from the white paint onto underside of bedways, etc, and the JET decal on front of lathe was misaligned where it stuck up above the bed a small amount. Would have interfered with banjo/tailstock if I hadn't trimmed with knife. Sandpaper and elbow grease took care of the overspray. Small cosmetic defects/oversights that don't affect the operation of the lathe, just somewhat disappointing for a machine close to $4000 after tax. ... show more

  • Very nice, good quality.

Very nice lathe. Runs super soomth and quite. I mounted mine on an elevated bench I had for my old lathe. They factory legs/stand it well made. I just needed to share some space with my air compressor that is below it. The lathe bench is sturdy and is bolted to the cement wall. So far so good.

  • Very nice. Glad to have it

This thing is awesome! Very quiet, and has been a joy to use. I love that I can reverse the motor. Helps get into some tighter spots since the head doesn't pivot.

  • Good value
Style: Lathe Pattern Name: Wood Lathe
Price wise this one seemed to be around middle range. It’s heavy and sturdy. Being 220 v adds power and smoothness. To me the most noticeable quality is the increased smoothness with large pieces of not so round or even pieces. Has an RPM indicator and that’s it, not a lot of complicated electronics to break. I’ll give it a five for tech support because I read that it’s very good. ... show more

  • Warning - Headstock does not pivot
Style: Lathe Pattern Name: Wood Lathe
Warning - there is a new model of the 1840 that does NOT have a pivoting headstock. If ya are expecting it to pivot, would see what they are really shipping, the older or newer model. Terry S, please don’t comment unless you know the facts. The 2018 version on this lathe does not have a rotating headstock. ... show more

  • A TRULY GREAT LATHE
Style: Lathe Pattern Name: Wood Lathe
I just upgraded from my old JET 1640 lathe to this JET 1840 lathe. They have made some improvements, but it basically works very much like my old 1640. I like everything about it.
