Laser crosshairs spot on, LED light much appreciated. I did mount it on a DeWalt planer table (replaced DeWalt top with double plywood top for strength) for mobility; rock solid and just the right height.     • Lamp and laser don't work.

I chose the Jet drill press over the Rikon because of the laser alignment and the LED lamp illuminating the table. I ordered the drill press in late July 2022. Assembly was straight forward, and the machine met my expectations. Approximately 10 days after working with the machine, the circuit board controlling the power light, the lasers, and the LED went out. When I contacted Jet, the technician, a nice guy, said they knew there were problems with the circuit board. They would send me a new one the FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY 2023. I would have to disassemble the machine and install the board myself. OK. After hearing nothing from Jet, I contacted them again during the 4th week of January 2023. The reply was "Engineers changed the part to include all the circuit boards and not due in here to ship out until 5/8/2023." Seriously. By that time I will have had the machine for 10 months waiting on the replacement for a bad circuit board which Jet knew was in the machine so I can replace it myself. I would trade my drill press for the Rikon right now. ... show more

Thomas Edison invented the incandescent light in the late 1800s...150 years ago. The laser was invented and developed in the 1950s and early 1960s over 60 years ago. The white LED illumination bulb was invented in the 1990s...thirty years ago. You'd think the technology of electric illumination would be mature enough that Jet could get their light and laser alignment to work on their drill press for more than a week. ... show more

    • It s a Jet 15" Benchtop DP, What would I expect?

Putting it together was a little annoying, but went off without a hitch. I did it by myself, but I am a rather large hu-MAN so I was able to lift it and manipulate it without assistance. My only beef, and it applies to almost every drill press, is the levers for pushing the bit down versus the spring-tension trying to pull it back up: you are basically working with your right hand and once you have gone counter-clockwise as far as your hand will let you, you have to let go to grab the next lever, and the head pulls back up. I wish they could dampen it a bit so you have a second to grab the next lever. (sorry about my non-technical words there; best I can do) ... show more

Arrived on time but with two problems; one a cap covering the return spring is broken and two the chuck can not be turned to open the jaws. Tonight I pluged in the drill and the indicator light, the laser light, and the work light do not work. The drill still works, just none of the lights. I have tried to go on line to tell the people I ordered it from of the problems but they have the worst warrenty reporting set up I have ever seen. I send a email to them and I get back an email saying my case is under review and that is it. Do not order from this company, they sell but do not support. ... show more

    • Plan on the laser and light not working

I received this drill press a month ago and the laser guide and LED light stopped working one day. When I called Jet (JPW) tech support, I learned this was a “known issue” with these machines. The tech said he’d get a “card” send to me that fixes this issue, but it’d take 6 months because of supply issues. These features were one of the reasons I purchased this tool and now I can’t use them until I somehow install this card. (And I read that installing it isn’t extremely easy). So, if you’re considering getting this machine because of the laser and light features — plan on them probably not working until you get the new part (which takes about 6 months). ... show more

This is my third drill press. The others were mediocre. This JET drill press has a good chuck and will hold a very small bit 1mm to 16mm (5/8") which was surprising to me. JET didn't spell out that feature in its sales pitch. Assembly was a bit challenging: The head assembly is heavy and I found a work around this by laying it on its side a then sliding the column assembly into the motor/head assembly, then securing in it place with its set screw, and tilting it upright. I also removed some of its weight by removing the large (heavy) table from its worm-shaft/table support. This required removing the large nut (24mm -- which is loosened when setting the tilt-table angles). By removing this 24mm nut you can remove the heavy table. Also, partially extracting the 13mm alignment pin. This 24mm nut was factory installed, probably with an impact wrench. The wrench JET provided didn't work well. I used a Craftsman 1/2" drive 24mm socket and long handled breaker-bar. Of course reinstalling the table once uprighted and following the remaining setup directions. All-in-all this is a nice drill press. ... show more
