  • Spineless Lathe.
When this item is shipped to you, they don't stick to a delivery appointment, they don't require a signature, and they don't call in advance. the lathe is delivered by an outside shipper (Not Amazon) The lathe is bolted to it's pallet, I have a scissor jack, so I was able to get under the pallet to unbolt it, but as the thing is 300lbs, be very careful. the lathe is mostly assembled, and comes with the tools required to work on it, save a wrench or two. startup was easy, and getting it running took no time at all. The build quality on this lathe is decent enough, the housing for the drive train is thin enough that you'll almost certainly dent it moving the lathe around, the tool holder is stiff, sturdy, and the gears are steel. All of this, but the lathe has absolutely no torque, anything harder than bronze is going to be a "no go" on this lathe. The performance of this lathe compared to my old Wen mini lathe is about the same, but this one is much larger, and more expensive. the main issue with the lack of torque is that the gear that connects straight to the motor slips, probably as a sort of safety. The main takeaway I have had running this thing is that a $4k 300lb lathe doesn't perform better than an $800 100lb lathe, but a 300 lb lathe is too heavy to be returned. ... show more
