Button is quality. Light does shine through letters (see photo). If putty doesn’t work (didn’t for me), heat a glue stick with lighter until really melted press-hold (90s) on old button and pull.

Great economical replacement for old, worn, sharp start button. BMW dealer quoted me $800 plus dollars claiming they had to replace the whole panel to change the start button. Glad I gave this a try. I did also use a small flathead screwdriver to help pry the old button off after the putty loosened it. ... show more

You have to remove your old button normally when you buy this kind of item they give you a sticky adhesive putty to remove your old button with little damage they literally only mailed me a button with no tool to get my old button off so this product to me is useless I’m not going to risk damaging my BMW removing a old button because this company wants to cut corners! When you use the black stuff it comes with don’t remove the paper that it’s covered use the end that’s not covered with paper and stick it on the start button and use the side that’s covered with paper to pull up
