I have JUST received this. I will continue to update this, upon opening the box, there was broken glass inside which thankfully didn't cut me. I assume it was from the goggles as there is no lenses in them any more. I am more worried they think having glass safety glasses is a good idea... It's not. Case came broken, I assumed that when I bought this bas d on other reviews. Item seems mostly intact. Just be warry of broken glass of you buy this ... show more

    • Surprisingly Effective Electric Jackhammer

Let me preface this by saying that I broke my right wrist from a fall right at the holidays. I have not been able to use this since then, but before I took that misstep, my helper and I were able to put it to a couple of fairly rigorous jobs. We had a patio foundation that was poured many, many years ago by the previous owner of the land that we live on. This thing sat in a location that still has me scratching my head as to why. The concrete was about 31/2" thick and sized at 12 x 14. I ordered this JACKCHEN Electric Jackhammer specifically for this project. I will have to admit that I have never used an electric jackhammer before, so I truly had my doubts about how this was going to do under a load. When it arrived and I removed it from its' packaging, the first thing that I noticed was the weight of the unit. This thing is HEAVY for an electric powered tool. The SECOND thing I noticed is the really cheap case that was included. When I say cheap, I mean this thing is useless. If I had drawn my conclusions on my first impressions, they would have not been good. At my age and with the number of back surgeries that I have had, I needed a helper for this project. One of my employees, who is half my age, asked if he could get some extra weekend work, so I didn't have to look for a helper. He started using the tool first and I noticed that it was doing a FANTASTIC job of breaking up the patio. The weight of the tool gives it some solid backbone that helps with demolition. When I took over, I found out just how much power that this thing has. I was not just impressed, I was shocked. You would never think that an electric tool would have this much torque. I was able to break up about 5 square feet before I was worn out. The weight will definitely make a difference with how long you can use it without taking a break. By the end of the day, we had the entire slab broken up and my helper wheelbarrowed the chunks down to my bulkhead at the head of the canal that comes into my property from the 2,000 acre lake we live on. Start to finish was about a 7 hour job. That included cleaning up the pieces and moving them to the bulkhead. I am VERY glad that I ordered this JACKCHEN Electric Jackhammer. It easily got the first task that I had ordered it for done in short order. I have already found a couple of other things that need concrete removed from them around our dock. This will definitely see some strong usage over the next couple of years. Not gonna sugarcoat this: Not once yet have I thought anything about this product is quality. That said I've found it to be very effective at doing its job breaking concrete. My unit arrived in a box that was in several pieces with one of the hinges just completely detached. Whatever did that took out the safety glasses as well. Fortunately the hammer itself seemed unscarred. You'll quickly notice that the thing it pretty heavy and that works well in practice by going most of the work for you and you don't have to press down on it. I've been using mine to take down a storm shelter the previous owners of our house build right in the middle of the garage. Not idea for something that should be used straight up and down but once I get a little hole going it just works great. I really only have to keep it level and it drives in to split the concrete apart. The unit body is made of some sort of cast metal with a beefy bit connection that is a little more sturdy. The secondary handle is somewhat thin metal with a plastic handle. Not much force goes into these but I'd like to see them made better. The unit is very easy to use as you just plug it in and pull the trigger. Having two bits is handy if for nothing else than sometimes I get the pointy one driven in and stuck so I disconnect and use the chisel bit to free it. The bits themselves are solid and have been holding up well. I'd like to see everything about this product made with better materials and techniques but when it comes down to it I've been able to get good use out of it. I'll start off with saying that I've never used jackhammer before. I've dreamed of it but never had a reason to pick one up as I've done fine with a sledgehammer. But this popped up so I had to try it. Its pretty darned heavy. The dual grip setup will make it easier to use in the long run but I'd be interested to see how tired I got after a couple hours. All I tried it on was a random boulder in my yard to ensure it worked. And it did. Took that boulder out (maybe not quite a boulder) pretty quickly and easily. Without ever having using one, I don't have a comparison but it was easy to use other than the weight of it. So does it work? For sure. Its probably not rated for commercial use but for around the home, it'll do some destruction. It does come with the 2x chisels and the short time I used mine, it didn't even dent them. So decent quality there. Also has some replacement bushings, gloves, goggles (pretty cheap ones), and an oil fill container. The handle on mine was pretty loose but tightened up easiy and was ready to rock. The biggest downfall for me was the case it came in. There was a couple broke spots on it when I got it and even removing it from the box, the case was so thin that my fingers cracked/broke it in spots. Opening the clip on it and it broke off. A pretty worthless case. Which is a bit sad because this is heavy and it has parts with it. For something I'm rarely going to use, I'd like a decent case so parts don't go missing. I'd pay the extra for a solid case to enclose it in versus this garbage case. Overall, if you need a quick jackhammer, this'll get the job done. I can't attest to its longevity or comparison but it worked when I used it. ... show more
