  • Very pleased
I purchased this after people complained about the sound quality on video calls. They can hear me perfectly with this camera.

  • Quality easy-to-use 4K webcam
I ordered this webcam as an upgrade from a full HD webcam. Upon receipt the package immediately makes a quality impression: the carton is filled by a two-piece vacuformed tray that cradles and protects the webcam during shipping. The webcam itself continues the quality impression with sturdy construction [including a hinged (not stick-on) privacy shutter] and a USB-A converter tethered near the USB-C cable plug. The included user manual provides a customer service telephone number and e-mail address, offers a Companion App for Windows or for macOS by scanning a QR code [my desktop computer does not scan QR codes (shrug)], and outlines the limited 1-year warranty. I extended the warranty an additional six months by registering my webcam with the vendor (JPG or PDF scan of purchase receipt upload required). The webcam clips onto the computer monitor top, or the webcam bottom standard threaded socket permits mounting on a (not supplied) tripod or camera boom. The webcam front panel large LED glows white (power ON) and the driver software autoloads when I connect the USB cable to my Windows 8.1 computer. I tested the webcam both with Corel Multicam Capture Lite (limited to full HD resolution) software and with ContaCam (4K capable) software. The webcam front panel large LED glows green when video is ON. The webcam has a 95 degree field-of-view that is wider than many other webcams but is appropriate both for personal and business use. Color, brightness and contrast are good; glare does not skew the webcam video response; and video noise is negligible both in full HD video and in 4K video. Audio is clear with sufficient volume. There simply are no problems and my initial impression holds: this is a quality easy-to-use webcam. ... show more

  • Good general purpose webcam
I had been using a Logitech c930e as my webcam for work Zoom and MS Teams calls because our laptops are limited in terms of installing software and the Logitech camera software was an approved package as Logitech was our official webcam brand. However, over time during the pandemic, there has been less of a push toward specific brands as people have probably bought whatever the wanted and the Logitech software was removed from my machine. That being the case, I no longer had any particular loyalty toward the Logitech camera and wondered about higher resolution options. J5 is a company I knew existed; I've bought some of their dongles and adapters in the past so I was willing to try out this product. I'd previously considered getting the Logitech Brio 4K camera when I was looking at Logitech options, but after watching many reviews on YouTube, I decided it wasn't worth the extra expense. So this camera supporting 4K and a wide angle appealed to me, at least on paper. BTW, speaking of dongles, this one comes with both standard USB and C adapter/connectors, which is handy. I tried this camera out with Zoom and Teams for work but I did more testing using it with OBS on my own personal laptop since I can install whatever I want on it. The microphone on the camera is serviceable but like most webcams, you'll get some echo as it picks up room ambience (unless your room is set up for recording and you've made the appropriate adjustments to reduce echo). It's perfectly fine for most work calls; you can be heard just fine although there will be white noise in the background. I use a separate mic for my work calls, and this paired up fine for my usual set up with no issues. I use a Creative X3 with a condenser mic plugged in and use the SPDIF out to a Fiio BT30 Bluetooth transmitter (transmitting to a Fiio BT5) so I can listen wirelessly for those calls where I'm doing more listening than talking. I had no issues with the camera at all even with my strange setup. The camera itself produces video that is also satisfactory for work videoconferencing. Out of the box with no adjustment, colors are reasonable even in sketchy lighting. In fact, it does a better with low light overall than the Logitech. The wide angle is something I thought I would like, but I found myself hiding things in my work area or moving the camera to get the shot I wanted. I don't view this as a negative per se, it's just something to keep in mind. If you're used to a tighter shot, you may find you also need to adjust things that appear in the shot. I love that the camera has a built-in cover and I appreciate the light that tells you quickly and easily whether the camera is simply powered on (white) or is in use (green). The camera itself is larger than the Logitech, but it does better sitting on a flat surface. It can of course also be mounted on a tripod if desired. I don't really have any complaints with this camera. I don't think it's a camera a serious gamer would want to use for livestreaming to Twitch, but it's also not advertised for that kind of use. For people looking for a higher resolution and/or wide angle camera that can fit more people in a shot, this is a good option and worth trying out. It's cheaper than the Logitech Brio so unless you're very invested in the brand, I'd definitely say try this one out first. ... show more

  • Compressed Video Signal
I'm somewhat disappointed by how much this camera compresses the video signal - and no wonder, using USB 2.0... I'm confused why they didn't use USB 3.0 or higher, and run it less compressed... Because of this, you aren't really getting much extra detail out of the 4K recording. Yes, it technically has that many pixels, but after compression it doesn't look much different than the same camera in 1080x1920. This camera is decent, but tries too hard to be compatible with everything. Such a waste of a good camera sensor... Low light is good, as other's have said. The audio picks up well too, and I like the addition of the privacy shutter. The attached dongle that converts from USB-C to USB-A is good in theory, but it needs to be running at 5 Gbps, or preferably closer to 10 Gbps... not 0.5 Gbps... It's not bad, but it isn't a performance 4k Webcam... if you're looking for extreme detail, I'd look elsewhere. If you're looking for plug-and-play convenience that just works, then this is a good choice that I might pay closer to $80 for. The main body is 4.17 inches wide and 1.34 inches tall (not including mount). The notch on the webcam mount (which allows it to sit on top of monitors) is 2 inches deep, and the cable on mine was 81 inches long including the adapter. ... show more
