  • Review of IVY Jazz guitar
This instrument is beautiful! Very well made. Resembles a Gibson es135. Pick ups, sound fine. Tuning keys, volume/tone controls all work smoothly. Neck is straight and the guitar plays in tune. The strings are even installed correctly! It is a very good buy and can easily be played professionally. Well worth the money! ... show more

  • Stunning guitar. Makes you want to play!
I am a 73yo beginner guitar player so use your own judgement about my review. I have had this for 2 weeks now. Plays great right out of the box, needed to acclimate to the house for a few days, but it was delivered in 6degree weather. Has good intonation , pickups work fine, holds the tuning now that it is acclimated, frets are smooth on the sides, action set at the right height. All in all a great value for the price I paid which was under 170$. It’s true these are very poorly packaged. This was listed as used on the website, however I think just the box was slightly damaged. It didn’t look like the box had ever been opened. However I thought there was supposed to be a cheap gig bag , but there wasn’t one. It may look like scratches on the pick guard in the pictures, but that’s because I haven’t removed the plastic covering on it. The guitar itself is in excellent condition and is beautiful. The idea is to get something you want to play and this it! ... show more

  • Quite the Shocker for the Money
I gave this five stars because for what I was expecting, it was quite a surprise. I have a small collection of guitars, but none that are top name brand like Gibson. I've played many Gibson's and Fender's of friends over the years and all were excellent guitars. I simply couldn't afford them at the time, so I bought Epiphone's, Tokai's, Squier's and the like, though I do have a Fender bass. I ordered the IYV IJZ 300A simply because I couldn't resist. After reading the reviews, I gambled the $200.00+ dollars and rolled the dice. I did this with a Firefly last year, which turned out to be true garbage. Neck relief was bowed and the strut rod nut was cross-threaded on. It's now a piece of wall art. I work on all my own guitars so I gave this a serious once-over when it arrived. Packing was better than I saw online, but still not great. No damage to report though. Long story short, the guitar was close to tune, out of box, though I knew I'd be replacing the strings anyway. There was some fret sprout, to be expected. This thing has been through all types of temp and humidity changes on the way here so no surprise. Four days hanging in a stable environment and much of the sprout diminished. I did need to fix a couple of them but I dressed them all, just in case. The fret surfaces were probably the biggest concern. Kinda rough. Again, humidity and a little corrosion that may not have been there upon build? I polished all the frets and they are now like glass. There were also no buzzes and my fret tool found no significant rocks. The neck relief was all-but-exact. No truss rod adjustment needed. The action was also set almost perfectly for my taste. I did adjust the tune-o-matic-style bridge just slightly. There were no snags or rough areas on the bridge that needed filing. Also, the intonation was basically spot-on when completed. I didn't need to touch a screw on the bridge. Amazing. I did finish the nut off smoothly. It was a bit rough but again, no string snags on exit on the tuner side of the nut grooves. Also, the tuning machines weren't near as bad as I was expecting or had seen in videos, but I like lockers anyway so I changed them. I let it hang for a couple days after I got it all back together, and the thing was still basically in tune! Intonation stayed stable and it plays amazingly. Scales, barre chords, open chords, all played easily. No hand-yoga. Total bargain, especially after a little TLC. It's moved right to the top of my fave's, next to the Frankenstrat I built. Beautiful finish, super-pretty guitar, total bargain. ... show more

  • Not perfect. Close. But will need work.
I want to give this guitar 5 stars. But ... Although it looks beautiful, with nary a blemish anywhere to be found and the overall build quality looks great... The tuners are really lacking. Now this is nothing out of the norm for "budget" guitars. However, it is a bit frustrating how easy it is to go out of tune while playing. So the tuners need to be upgraded. The first thing I did was replace the strings. I put a set of D'Adarrio Pure Nickel 11 gauge strings on it, which are popular jazz strings. Trying to set the intonation was a challenge. I had to push the tune-o-matic bridge to the extreme for the bass side strings. In fact, it's still a little out. And, it came with no documentation or specs. It doesn't say what gauge strings are on it or are recommended. There's nothing to definitively say what it's made of. (Presumably wood. But body type, neck type, etc are not specified , so it could be anything.) That's a little sus right there. But... taking it on face value and considering the price, it's a good buy. It will take a little work to get it just right. Then it will be a 5 start guitar. Other than that, the action is pretty good and the overall look and feel is great. It's a very playable instrument. ... show more
