  • A whole lot of guitar for the money 💰
Style: Guitars
The media could not be loaded. I Had been watching the guitar for about a year or so now. I said to myself if it went on sale again and dropped below a $150 I was going to buy it. It showed up 1 day at a $135 or so. Again I browse through the reviews. Again I tossed and turned. I said ok, it's $135. In 1979 my dad spent $175 on a used Cort Les Paul Jr with about 6" action at the 12th Fret and had razor blades for Fret ends. According to Google that's $600+ today. I bought this for $135 today. This is my 2nd IYV guitar and according to general consensus I got very lucky the 1st time. I got lucky this time also. They package these things in bathroom tissue and then send them off with the Samsonite gorilla for delivery. This 1 arrived in a nearly flawless box. After unpacking and inspecting closely from head to tail, I decided she had arrived free of shipping damage. Woohoo!! After much closer examination this was the findings. If you think you are getting a 2k+ PRS or something, you will probably be sorely disappointed. I'm in my late 50s and grew up in a time when men were men and American men were not afraid to dive into what they had or could afford and make it as close to what they were looking for and dreaming of. If I wanted to beat it up I could put pictures in this review (and I did) of a dent on the top, or the place that wasn't shiny on the joint of the neck, or the place on the bottom "ear" with the weird run, or the Sahara desert dry neck, or the spot of black on the binding in the upper ear....What I saw was this...after I put some super slinkys on it, straightened the neck, polished the frets, put 3 coats of D'dario Hydrate on the fretboard, cleaned and polished the whole thing with carnuba wax, played in the strings and intonated it (isn't this stuff you do to every guitar you buy new or used?) Lastly applying some Silglide Hydra glide to the nut and bridge this thing plays and sounds like a dream. The 1 I got has fully functional hardware and everything feels good and quality, knobba and switches. Volume knob will change tone as Volume increases. Pick ups are clear, yet sound really good with pedals and different amps etc. Pictures do not do the beauty of this instrument justice. It does everything it is supposed to up to and including making my mind up on buying the real thing. Also p.s. this guitar is very addictive. I think about it when I am at work and stay up and play it after my wife goes to bed....p.p.s. I had credit card points, rewards and a gift card, so with tax I ended up with $9.37 in this axe....Best $10 I ever spent!! R.I.P. Dad. He also bought me a 1979 Fender Player 1 which I still have to this day ... show more

  • Incredible value for an amazingly well built instrument
Style: Guitars
I've been playing for a quite a while professionally in live and studio environments but took some time off and sold everything about 2 years ago. I recently decided to pick things back up and do some home recording to build my chops back up. I have a main guitar but wanted to a hardtail HH guitar and found the IYV. After reading the reviews, I pulled the trigger and received the guitar a few days later. The box was a little damaged upon arrival but no damage to the guitar. Out of the box, it needed minor work... Frets needed light filing/sanding, fretboard needed some lemon juice, strings needed to be changed and the intonation needed minor adjustments. (Side note - I think all guitarist should learn how to set up their guitar as it will save you thousands, you'll be able to set up the guitar exactly the way you like it for your particular style and approach and you'll have a better understanding of your instrument.) I'm very impressed with this guitar, regardless of the price. Sounds great and plays very well, smooth and well balanced across the neck and pick up configuration. It's a fraction of the cost of a real PRS and you could easily get an IYV Strat, LP, and Tele for the price of one name brand axe. From the other reviews I've read on those guitars, I think that's the route I'm going to go. Once you reach a certain point in your playing, you can make any decent guitar sound great and if you have the luthier skills to set up your guitar, you can make it just as easy to play as a Suhr or any custom shop Fender or Gibson. It's easy to get caught up with G.A.S. but honestly, save your money and put more time into learning how to set up your guitar, upgrade parts and practice more and you'll be a better well rounded guitarist. Play because you love music, not because you want the latest and greatest gear to appear like you're a pro. Nothing worse than when a guy shows up to a jam or gig with great gear but sounds like their fingers are broken. ... show more

  • Nice Guitar, Good Price
Style: Guitars
I was pleasantly surprised with this guitar. It was returned by someone to Amazon so I got it as a Returned Item and a few bucks off. I was worried why it was returned, but there doesn't appear to be any obvious reason why it was returned. The fit and finish is quite good. I found no flaws. I'm not sue if the top is a photo or real maple top, but it looks great. The neck is nice, and feels good to play. I'm not sure what wood The fretboard is made with, is a lighter brown colour but the finish was good except in fret 1 near the low E, a bit rough. It's a bigger neck than most guitars I own, probably more like a Gibson 50s style neck. But I like it. The nut is a cheap plastic piece and needs replacing with some kind of up grade. The strings were bad and I replaced them. I went to lower the action and went to remove some neck relief but there's not tension on the truss rod. So I got to look into that a bit more, but I lowered the bridge height and the action is nice with no buzzing. The pickups are okay, and a medium output sound. I might change the bridge pickup one of these days along with the nut but it's quite playable right from the factory other than the strings needing replacing. ... show more

  • Absolute must buy for beginner and better.
Style: Guitars
Rarely would you be able to afford the FEEL of this guitar at a price point attainable for most. This guitar, with very little set up and sanding plays with low action and a high end slickness. Perhaps I got a great one. Near perfect intonation right out of the box (adjustable). Tuners seem to hold okay. Pickups sound good at normal jam volumes. Higher volumes may suffer sonically. Gorgeous finish. If you care about having a guitar that is perfect and has high quality components this is not your $160 guitar. If you wish to play a beautiful and ultra comfortable budget guitar that sounds and resonates great...this is the one. You will not regret having this guitar. I would even hang it as art, seriously...ha ha. ... show more
