I use the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 regularly, and it has become one of those cameras I can just grab, start recording, and trust to give me good footage without much fuss. Image quality is one of its biggest strengths. The footage comes out sharp with good detail and color, and the low-light performance is especially impressive for an action camera. I also like the stabilization because it makes handheld footage much easier to use without constantly thinking about how perfectly I am holding the camera. The flip-up touchscreen is one of my favorite features. It makes framing much easier when I am in front of the camera, and the screen is large enough that changing settings does not feel cramped. The magnetic mounting system is also very convenient when moving the camera between different setups. The camera itself is compact enough to carry around without being a hassle, but it still feels solid and well built. I have not intentionally abused it to test durability, but nothing about it feels cheap or fragile during normal use. Battery life is decent for what this camera is doing, but I am glad I went with the dual-battery bundle. Having a second battery ready to go is genuinely useful, especially when recording at higher resolutions or using the screen a lot. For me, the extra battery adds more value than getting a bundle filled with accessories I may not use. Audio has also been good for an action camera, and I like the removable wind guard. It is a small feature, but it gives you some flexibility depending on how you are recording. There are a lot of features and shooting modes packed into the Ace Pro 2, so there is definitely some learning involved if you want to get everything out of it. You can start recording right away, but spending some time learning the different modes, stabilization options, resolutions, and settings is worth it. I paid $309.99 for the dual-battery bundle on sale, and at that price I think it is reasonable for what you are getting, although I still consider it an expensive action camera. At the regular price, I would think much harder about the value for money. Around the price I paid, the image quality, stabilization, flip screen, magnetic mounting, and second battery make the package much easier for me to justify. For regular use, the Ace Pro 2 has been stable, dependable, and easy to work with. The camera is not cheap, but when the price drops into the low $300 range for the dual-battery bundle, I think it becomes a much more attractive package.

Out of the box, the first thing you need to do is "activate" the device using the insta360 app. There's no way to avoid this, and the camera will not function in any way until it is complete. For the first two days I was unable to create an account. It sent a confirmation code that I had to enter, but that never arrived. After some back and forth with support (and almost giving up and returning it) I created a new email at gmail, and used that to register. That worked. Once I got the confirmation code, and the account was created, the camera linked to the app, and updated its firmware. Other than possibly for future firmware updates, I have no other use for the app. There's a bunch of stuff in there that I'm just not interested in at all. That the camera is a brick until you activate it is the only negative thing I have to say about this device. It's a shame they were so short-sighted to insist that you jump through these unnecessary hoops. This is the only thing holding me back from giving this device a 5 star review. Now the good: The quality of the video is outstanding, and is better than my DSLR video at twice the price. I'm not the intended audience for an "action" camera. While I tested out (and was impressed by) the stability tracking walking while filming, that wasn't why I bought it. I intend to use it in a 'static' environment, mounted on a tripod, as an additional angle, almost exclusively indoors, and in not well-lit enviroments. It absolutely excels at low-light filming. It's really amazing how little noise there is on the image. The flip-up screen is great for seeing yourself if you were doing vlog style videos. Being designed as an action camera, it's really small, and lightweight, allowing you to put them in places that would be hard to fit a regular camera. I do wish it had a 1/4" screw thread on the bottom, but luckily I had an adaptor. It's a little tricky to get the SD card out, but given that you can just hook up the camera in USB mode, and pull the files off that way, it's unlikely I'll need to take it out too often. In my first test, I recorded (in 8k) for around 40 minutes, and the battery was still going strong. It does split files in 30 minute chunks, but they joined together seemlessly when I put them side-by-side in Davinci Resolve. The audio is acceptable. Not as good as from a dedicated mic, but good enough for most needs. Would I buy another ? Most likely. It's hard to think what features a newer model would bring that I'd really need that this doesn't have, but if I were looking for additional angles in my multi-cam setup, this is what I'd go for.

I have been shooting photos and videos for 22 years, and this Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is easily one of the worst cameras I have ever used. There is a lot of hype behind this camera, but the actual image quality does not match the marketing at all. The biggest problem is the video quality. The footage looks low quality, unstable in a strange way, and has a weird ghosting/artifact effect that makes the image look unnatural. Instead of clean, real video footage, it looks like the camera is trying to process or “fix” the image too much, and the result is worse. The AI processing is one of the worst parts of this camera. I do not want artificial-looking video. I want clean, sharp, natural footage, and this camera does not deliver that. The one-inch sensor sounds good on paper, but in real use, it does not feel like it is doing much. The image quality is still poor, and the footage does not look anywhere near what I expected from a camera being marketed this heavily. It almost feels like the sensor advantage is wasted because of the processing, stabilization, and overall image handling. I also do not like how they use the Leica name in the marketing. As someone familiar with photography and brands like Leica and Hasselblad, this feels more like a gimmick than a real quality advantage. A name on the lens does not matter if the final footage looks bad. My GoPro Max 360 gives me better results, and even smaller cameras I have tested, like the RunCam Thumb 2, can look better in actual use. That is a major problem for a camera at this price point. The shape and physical design are probably the only thing I can say is decent, but that does not matter when the most important part — the image quality — is bad. Overall, this camera is all hype and very little real performance. The footage looks bad, the processing looks artificial, the stabilization has strange ghosting, and the sensor does not deliver the quality it should. I would not recommend this camera. Pros: Physical shape/design is decent Cons: Poor image quality Weird ghosting/artifact effect AI processing makes footage look unnatural One-inch sensor does not deliver the expected quality Overhyped marketing compared to real-world performance. Gimmick scam camera. Uaing the name ocer what it actual looks like. Fool the people, not me.
