  • Solid build at a decent price point!
Size: IRF-2SA-1
Purchased this back in May and has been working great! When I first received the package I couldn't believe how good the build quality is at this price point compared to other named brands. I mainly use it with my Weber 22" charcoal grill for smoking meats. One probe for ambient temp and the other for internal meat temp. Both work great! I double-check the internal meat temp with my ThermoPop and the difference is negligible. The receiver has ample range too. I stay in my basement 6 ft down under the earth and it has no issue connected with the transmitter. Overall a great buy and I will choose InkBird again if there's need for another BBQ temp gauge! ... show more

  • Works, but care needs to be taken on first assembly
Size: IRF-2SA-1
Hopefully the manufacturer reads this, I received my unit with a similar flaw others reported with the lens ready to pop off. As someone who design products, there is a simple adjustment in manufacturing that needs to be made to resolve. For others that experienced this, there is a tab to pull off a protective clear sheet, but the tab is actually more bonded to the lens than the sheet it’s trying to remove. The glue under this lens releases in turn. So if you start pulling to remove, simply stop, actually rub the tab more into the lens. This will do 2 things, start creating an air gap between the protective sheet and the lens, and also tighten the bond the the tab and protective sheet. It also tightens the bond with the lens and the plastic body. So far I’ve checked and it connects correctly and appears to be initially accurate. I’ve only experienced real time tracking of temp while cooking recently but it certainly beat stabbing your food every 2 minutes and lowering the cooking temp in the process. ... show more

  • Overall, accurate and good value
Size: IRF-2SA-1
Got an InkBird IRF-2SA way back in August 2020. Still working fine. Never wrote a review cause it seemed to not be sold anymore. Just happened to notice it is still available, and nice deal with 50% off coupon right now, so here goes... At the time also tried the ThermoPro TP08S (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014DAVHSQ) but the InkBird was about $10 less back then. Both are basic 2 probe remote thermometers. Saw reviews for these and other thermometers using boiling water to test accuracy. But this does not represent actual cooking temps. Tested these units by placing all 4 probes into a bowl of hot water at 160F. Using a ThermoWorks Thermapen as a reference, let the bowl of water cool and monitored the reported temps, stirring frequently. In both units, the remote unit was several seconds behind in showing the actual temperatures. The transmitting units have their own displays, and they don't lag. Likely this is sample variation and not saying one brand is more accurate, but the InkBird was slightly more accurate -- typically -0.5 degrees relative to the Thermapen, while the ThermoPro was around +1 degrees or a bit more. Both probes of the InkBird matched, while one probe of the ThermoPro read about +0.5 more than the other. In any case, both units were within the +/- 2F specifications relative to the Thermapen. IMHO, these small variations are not important, can adjust your target temperatures to compensate. The settings on the InkBird are more flexible, as each probe can be configured for either a single target temperature (using a menu of meat types and doneness or a custom temperature), or for a high/low range with Oven mode. With the ThermoPro, one probe has a single target temperature (meat types or custom), while the other probe monitors high/low temps for BBQ. Have been experimenting with a pseudo-sous-vide slow cooking with low oven temps (which really works, but does take longer since air does not conduct heat like water). The InkBird with both probes in Oven mode makes it easier to keep temps within a desired range. The UI is consistent: select probe 1 or 2, select meat or oven, choose temperature. On the ThermoPro, the UI is different for the meat vs. BBQ probe but it's also fine. The plastic enclosure of the ThermoPro is clearly heavier, with rubberized areas. The battery doors are sturdy and the remote unit has.a clever stand that can also be used as a belt clip. The InkBird has decent plastics, but not rubberized. The remote unit has a stand, but it is flimsy -- and no belt clip. The InkBird has L shaped probes, and the straight part of it is about 4.5". Maybe could get 4.75" into a thick cut. The ThermoPro has longer straight probes that can be inserted up to 6" to the knurled ferrule. One advantage of an L shape is that the cable side can be pointed up, away from any liquids or a hot grill. BTW, there is a nice article on probe care by ThermoWorks (Google "probe safety guide bbq"). Due to the harsh high heat conditions in a grill, especially the grill grate, probes may have to be replaced eventually. Amazon has many 3rd party sellers of ThermoPro compatible probes, but they state that they are only good specific models. ThermoPro and InkBird have compatible 2.5mm plugs. I ran the same water bath test using one ThermoPro and one InkBird probe in each unit and everything worked fine. InkBird does sell replacement probes on their Website, but good to know ThermoPro probes also work. So... am happy with the InkBird, and would be happy with the ThermoPro too. If they were the same price, then maybe ThermoPro would win -- but the InkBird is slightly more accurate, somewhat more functional. Don't see a need to get the fancier models, and did not want Bluetooth remote probes -- range is limited, apps may be buggy, and way more expensive to drop your phone while minding the BBQ. ... show more

  • Inkbird Does It Again!!
Size: IRF-2SA-1
The media could not be loaded. Again they have done a great job at a much lower price point! The IRF shows that Inkbird is the rising star of wireless temperature makers! This device worked flawlessly. I used it this weekend to do some Picanha. I did a reverse sear and put the probe in the chamber and one of the smaller pieces. Setting the alarm was simple and not complicated at all. Went back into the house and waited. Then the alarm went off and it wasn't some loud obnoxious sound. Which was very nice. I can't endorse this company enough. They are just killing it with their devices and their customer service is second to none! ... show more

  • A lot of room for improvement
Size: IRF-2SA-1
This thermometer do brings convenience to any kitchen, you can keep tabs on your cooking from virtually anywhere in your home. This feature is a game-changer, especially when hosting gatherings or multitasking in the kitchen. But the construction of the thermometer feels a bit flimsy and could be build better and be more sturdies for long term use also the preset menu with different temperatures is helpful but it could me a little more user or beginner friendly in terms of customization. Although it boasts a countdown timer and temperature alarms, which are great for avoiding overcooking or undercooking, the user interface and programming could be better ... show more

  • great customer service
Size: IRF-2SA-1
It was well past the return date before I first used the device and discovered it did not work, I wrote it off to the hazards of internet commerce. I received an inquiry from the vendor as to my satisfaction. I related my experience and the vendor immediately offered a full replacement. It is a joy to find a company proactively and aggressively seeking to please its customer. The replacement device works very well. ... show more
