    • Mounting Plate worked for Dutch Lap...with some modifications

I could not find a 5" mounting plate specific for Dutch Lap siding. So, I took a chance with this and after some measurements, made some custom cuts with an oscillating tool and got a better fit. I still had some awkward gaps because of the Dutch Lap but I had a secure plate after I screwed it to the sheeting. Also, caulking helped to hide many of the gaps as well as provide some waterproofing. The only thing I did not like about these plates are the include metal-specific screws that are included. I rounded the head of one of the screws because it was extremely tight and nearly rounded the second. I ended up having to drill in a self-tapping screw into the bracket that came with my light to fully secure the bracket. The second light was much easier as I used some small wood screws that easily cut into the plastic to secure the bracket. I wish there were plates made specific for my siding but I made these work. At a distance, the plates look really clean, thanks to the caulking hiding the gaps. ... show more
