  • Excellent value

I needed a bigger size to fit my inner helmet headphones. These helmets are really nice, with lots of customizable features. I like the face cover on to rock my gopro. Retractable sun visor is really nice too.

  • Good Quality & Great Features
Size: Large Color: Silver Gray
As an Amazon Vine Voice member, I was eager to try the ILM Open Face Motorcycle 3/4 Half Helmet (Model HS711). Overall, this helmet offers excellent quality and features, making it a strong contender, though it has a couple of design issues that prevent a perfect score. Premium Feel and Fit (Pros): The first thing I noticed was the high-quality feel; the build materials are solid, and the helmet is surprisingly lighter than I expected for a modular style. Crucially, the helmet is both DOT and ECE rated, and the inclusion of the ECE certification is a huge confidence boost, assuring me of its safety and protection should a crash occur. The fit is true to size (I ordered a Large), conforming comfortably right out of the box. A huge highlight is the quick-release chin strap—I always prefer this style as it makes buckling and unbuckling super quick and easy, even when I'm wearing bulky winter gloves. Shields and Versatility: I appreciate the versatility of the shield system. This helmet includes two different slide-down shields (dark/tinted and clear), which is fantastic. The shield is designed to retract and conceal entirely within the helmet's shell, meaning it's not a typical external shield mechanism, which results in a very clean look. The 4-Star Drawbacks: The one major drawback, which significantly affects colder weather use, is the shield design's lack of compatibility with a Pinlock anti-fog system. Due to this design, riding in cooler months or morning’s means the shield will inevitably fog up quickly, especially when the removable chin bar is attached. Speaking of the chin bar, while the removable feature is a nice option for converting the look, I found it comes a bit too close to my chin and face compared to other helmets I've used that offer more breathing room between the face and the bar. It feels slightly cramped, and gives me a bit of concern that in a crash the helmet does not have enough room to avoid damaging my chin or face. However, this could also just be how my face is and your mileage may vary on that particular point. Conclusion: Considering the excellent features, quality build, and crucial DOT/ECE safety ratings, this helmet offers very good value at $130, especially when compared to similar helmets from big-name brands. It's a stylish, comfortable, and well-made helmet that excels in fit and protection. However, the fogging issue due to the lack of Pinlock support is a real pain and is the main reason I am rating it 4 out of 5 stars. ... show more

  • Do not buy just for looks
Size: Medium Color: Matte Black
The only thing that’s really good about this helmet is how it looks like and the price. It also looks like good quality surprisingly but here are the major cons. With the brim on it it is very difficult and uncomfortable to ride your bike faster than 40 mph because it will just pull on your head like crazy. When you take the brim off everything above 35 mph is extremely loud and can’t be healthy to listen to. I’m very very disappointed that I spent the money for a helmet that isn’t good at all. ... show more

  • Nice Helmet, Misleading Safety Claims
Size: Large Color: Silver Gray
# ILM Z302 "4-in-1" Helmet Review: Nice Helmet, Misleading Safety Claims **Rating: 2/5 stars** ## The Good The ILM Z302 is a nicely constructed helmet for what it actually is. The ABS shell feels solid, the EPS foam liner is adequate, and the ventilation system works well with its multi-channel design featuring mouth, front, top, and rear vents. The quick-release metal buckle is convenient, and the removable/washable liner is a practical touch. I appreciate the inclusion of both tinted and clear visors, and the built-in helmet lock design shows thoughtful engineering. For a **3/4 open-face helmet**, the build quality is genuinely decent. ## The Problem: The ECE 22.06 Claim Here's where I have a serious issue. The product listing explicitly states this helmet "meets ECE22.06, FMVSS 218 and DOT safety standards." **I do not believe the ECE 22.06 claim is accurate for this helmet design.** Let me explain why. ECE 22.06 is the current European safety standard, and it's rigorous—especially for helmets with removable or modular chin bars. Under ECE 22.06, any helmet with a detachable or moveable chin guard must be tested in multiple configurations. The chin bar must: - Stay locked in place during impact testing - Actually absorb energy and provide measurable protection - Pass as either "P" (protective chin bar), "NP" (non-protective), or "P/J" (protective in both open and closed positions) The Z302's snap-on chin guard is not integrated into the helmet's protective structure. There's no continuous EPS foam liner extending into it. It clips onto a 3/4 helmet shell. This is fundamentally different from a true modular helmet where the chin bar is an engineered component of the impact protection system. If this helmet legitimately passed ECE 22.06 testing with that chin bar configuration, it would need to be clearly marked with the ECE certification label showing the specific designation (/P, /NP, or /P/J). A helmet sold as ECE 22.06 certified must have this information permanently attached. ## DOT Certification: What It Actually Means Here The helmet likely does meet DOT (FMVSS 218) standards—but here's the key detail: **DOT does not test chin bars at all**. Open-face and half helmets routinely pass DOT certification. The Z302 passes as a 3/4 open-face helmet. That removable chin guard is irrelevant to the DOT certification because DOT simply doesn't evaluate it. ## Why This Matters The listing markets this as suitable for "Street Bike" use in "full face" configuration. If someone buys this helmet believing that snap-on chin guard will protect their face in a crash the way an actual full-face helmet would—**it won't**. A legitimate full-face helmet has: - A chin bar that's part of the continuous shell structure - EPS foam lining the entire interior, including the chin area - Tested and certified protection for facial impacts The Z302's chin guard appears to be a cosmetic accessory that changes the helmet's appearance, not its protective capability. ## The Bottom Line **As a 3/4 open-face helmet:** It's well-made. Good ventilation, nice features, solid construction. **As a "full face" helmet:** No. That chin bar is not protective equipment. **The ECE 22.06 claim:** Extraordinary claims require evidence. The design of this helmet—a 3/4 shell with a clip-on chin piece—does not align with how ECE 22.06 certifies protective chin bars. If ILM has legitimate ECE 22.06 certification documentation showing this helmet passed chin bar impact testing, they should make that prominently available. Until then, I consider this claim misleading. I don't think ILM is a bad company—they make other helmets that receive positive reviews. But claiming ECE 22.06 certification for a helmet design that appears physically incapable of meeting those chin bar testing requirements is a serious problem. Riders trust safety certifications to make informed decisions. Overstating those certifications puts people at risk. **Would I recommend it?** Only if you understand you're buying an open-face helmet with styling accessories—and you ignore the ECE 22.06 claim entirely. **Suggestion to ILM:** If the ECE 22.06 certification is legitimate, publish the test documentation and show the certification label. If it's not, remove the claim from your Amazon listing immediately. Safety isn't a feature you can exaggerate. ... show more

  • Solid option for everyday riding
Size: Medium Color: Black Gray
I’ve been using this ILM open face helmet for a while and it’s a solid option for everyday riding. It’s lightweight and comfortable, and the fit feels secure without being too tight. The visor is a nice touch—it helps with wind and sun, especially on longer rides. I also like how easy it is to put on and take off with the quick-release strap. Overall, a good budget-friendly helmet that gets the job done for cruising or commuting. Not the most fancy but for the price point, you should expect what you get. ... show more
