  • Get this helmet. Seriously.
Size: Medium Color: Matte Black
You have no idea how stoked I am to finally have found a brand alternative to Speed and Strength. S&S, by a longshot, manufactures the most durable, comfortable, high-quality, well-designed helmets on the market. Problem is, they've gotten more expensive and harder to find (especially in my size). I've pretty much given up on them as my go-to brand. I tried a 1Storm helmet a few months back. I wasn't impressed. Design was awesome, shape of the helmet made me feel like an extraterrestrial riding around my motorcycle. When my last S&S helmet fell apart last Friday, I took a change on this brand and I'm super glad I did. I got the matte black helmet and installed the tinted visor and I have to say, it was so sick I couldn't believe it was only $60. I was so stoked I was doing some ninja moves in my helmet and my dog was looking at me like I had lost my mind. What I like about this helmet: # It's got a quick release strap # It's soft on the inside # It's breathable material; I didn't feel or notice much sweat in my helmet which is impressive for the Arizona heat # It's beautifully designed, I didn't see any imperfections in the helmet design or finish # The tinted visor is REALLY tinted, like black-tinted not that stupid smoke color everyone tries to sell you. You have no idea the difference it makes while driving around in Arizona. Seriously. First, you can not escape the sun. And about half the day, it's only agenda is to try and kill you by blinding you with its death rays. As soon as you drop that tinted visor down, you forget the sun is even there - that's how harmless it feels. You would think that with as dark as the visor is, it would be hard to see. I know it's so strange to say but the clarity of that visor is superb. It's not dark at all from the inside, at least not like you would expect when you see the visor on the outside. It's like looking at everything through some super, super clean sunglasses. # It's just all around a very decent and reasonably priced helmet. What I don't like about the helmet: # Who came up with the zipper idea?! I want to know because it can't be someone that rides a motorcycle. I do not want a zipper around the base of my neck! If I want to cover my neck, I'll just cover it with a jacket or something else. That's not my helmet's job or problem. Just stick to the stuff you got right and get rid of the zipper and I think you'll have people coming back for years. I'm just glad it's discreet but I still have to look at it every time I put my helmet on. Bottom line is: If you only ride occasionally or once in a blue moon, stick to the more expensive helmets - it's better to be safe than sorry until the newer brands are put to the test. You're not very likely to run through them that fast because you don't ride as much. But if you ride every day like me, a simple drop of the helmet from hip-height walking down the hallway at work could impact or ruin its ability to protect you in the future if the material inside expands. Gets expensive so it becomes a bit more practical to choose a reasonably priced helmet because you end up having to buy 1-3 each year if you don't treat them right. Get this helmet. Seriously. You'd be crazy not to sport this around town. Next paycheck, I'll be getting another color. Can't wait. ... show more

  • Looks really cool and seems like it'll protect your noggin
Size: Medium Color: Matte Black
Alright, well right off the bat, I'm going to start with the one thing that I really didn't like about it, and that it is that switching the visor from clear to tinted was INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING; it seemed simple, but somehow it ended up taking me about 40 minutes, to the point where I was beginning to think that I had received a faulty visor. The little hooks on the visor itself that go into the helmet's locking mechanism also seemed fragile/flimsy enough that I was worried I might accidentally snap and break the hooks and render the visor completely useless. But, in the end, I finally managed to snap everything into place and get the visor on, and I'm probably never, ever, EVER going to switch it back out to the clear one. This helmet is affordable enough that I think it'd be easier to just buy another helmet and keep the clear visor on that comes already installed. That being said, I really like everything else about the helmet. For one, it looks cool, and that to me was the most important factor in purchasing this, other than my desire to keep my brains inside my skull and working properly for the rest of my pathetic days. I did think the shape of the visor was a little more narrow and aggressive-looking over the GLX helmet that you can find on here, and that's the main reason I bought this ILM helmet over the GLX one, although I'm sure both helmets are good products. Second, this ILM helmet is VERY COMFORTABLE, way more so than the $200-$500 ones I was trying on at my local motorcycle supply store the other day when I was trying to figure out which helmet size I am. Maybe I'm just lucky in that I just so happened to have the right head shape and size for this helmet, but I mean it, it's VERY comfortable, and the padding is very soft and foamy. Also, I'm able to consistently put this helmet on without folding my ears, and that's saying a lot because I have pretty bigger-than-average, outward-sticking ears. The quick-release chin strap is also just as the name implies: very easy and simple to lock in or release. As I'm writing this, I've yet actually ride a motorcycle (my riding course is next week), so I can't really speak for the noise, but again, my main criteria for this purchase was looking cool and keeping my noggin safe and intact, and for this price, I couldn't have asked for more. However, I DID in fact receive more than I was expecting because of the comfort this helmet provides. Overall, great product for the price, even though the visor and visor mechanism seemed a little iffy to me at first. ... show more

  • Good for price, just not for people conscious of the heft/size
Size: Large Color: Matte Black
So for starters,I'm not a motorcycle driver but I do use this for my electric skateboard, as a full face helmet is a must when going the speed of most cars on the street. Padding is dense and soft where it needs to be. Fit was perfect and snug(size large for my big ol head). I managed to sneak a little wireless Sony ear piece to listen to music on the go(though it doesn't feel the most comfortable as the ear cutouts are fairly small even for my small ears). I haven't fallen with it on but for the speeds I'm going at(10-25mph), I'm sure it'll suffice. The matte black looks nice when you first get it,but easily shows dirt, oils and scratches the moment something sharp comes in contact with the finish. The lenses are good, and I'm glad they included tinted and non tinted, but scratch easily, more so than the helmet. The size of the helmet is fairly condensed and compact, with no real excess where there shouldn't be. Airflow is kind of a joke, since the little switches do next to nothing for breathability. You're better off lifting the visor so you don't show up to your destination like a sweaty mess, and even that method isn't perfect. My fiance ordered a helmet as well,in white and a size small, and it hides scratches better, oddly enough. One thing to note, however,is that the size you choose does NOT change the dimensions of the helmet. My large helmet and my fiance's small one,are identical and looks pretty huge on her small frame. All that changes with the size options are the amount of padding. Keep that in mind if you've got a smaller frame and don't want to look like a bobblehead on the road. ... show more
