So in the last 6 months i bought more than one of those fancy thick insulation waterproof coolers that zip shut… such a waste of money. The zippers on even the expensive ones (>$100) still break! Yea they keep stuff cold…for like 4-5days… till you can’t close it ever again. So out of frustration I gave up on those lightweight ultra thick “soft” coolers, and bought this! I like that this was affordable & had the Max cold special insulation… there seems to be a lookalike one that’s not with the same max-Cold insulation that is cheaper (still by Igloo) which I saw it at The local home improvement stores… but the better insulation is definitely worth it!!! If you live where it’s hot and over 90 all summer- your gunna be glad you got the better one… Ice stays frozen all day! I added a latch to it so I can keep it closed super tight, and I removed the original wheels, drilled out the area the wheels were to allow a solid metal axle to pass through, and added big beach balloon wheels by bonnlo, some roller bearings into the wheels, and spacers to get the wheels out a little wider to clear the notch in the cooler body for the original wheels, and I have what I think is a darn near perfect beach ready cooler that rolls over sand so much easier than even a dedicated “beach cart”. I’ve used it for beach trips and fishing and it’s great for both. It does lack a drainage hole but not a huge issue for me- less cold air leakage! The handle is a bit too short to comfortably pull this long distances- but I’m working on a fix for that too.. adding a fold out extension or replacing with something retractable from an old suitcase/laptop case or something…. There’s always room for improvement but as far as the base body of the cooler- it keeps things very cold, it’s durable, and surprisingly VERY light weight for its size and in fact a really good big size!! Love it! Highly recommend! Even with my steel axle and new wheels it’s still fairly light weight that I can carry it up or down stairs even filled if I need to. ... show more

I just upgraded to this 5 day cooler from a 3 day. It is excellent. Only took it on a 3 day trip so far but after 3 days my bag of ice was still frozen and the cooler was very cold! This was kind of a test run before some longer trips we'll be taking this year and I'm 100% comfortable this cooler will keep our food for 5 days no problems. I'll use a block of ice on the longer trips instead of a bag of cubes like this time and that will stay frozen even longer so this is absolutely going to be effective for 5 days without a problem. ... show more

After watching more than a few cooler shoot out videos online, I decided to save my money and go with a cheaper cooler. My rational for this, ultimately, was that I'll probably never need to keep things cold for more than a day, or a weekend at most. Getting a super pricy, super fancy cooler just felt like overkill, considering how infrequently we use it. My recommendation is to watch some videos that compare models in this price range, and then watch some videos that compare models in the premium range. Consider your needs, and make a good decision. For us it was a cooler that would keep our stuff cold for a weekend trip at most. This fits the bill perfectly. Only complaint is that the latch on the door feels flimsy, but this thing still keeps ice icy for 3+ days. ... show more

I have a 15 year older version of this same 50 qt high dome top Igloo cooler that's still working great. Only difference is it's light blue body with white top. Once I installed Igloo stainless hinges on it several years ago my only complaint of too flimsy hinges went away. Wanted another like it because that domed top allows extra ice packed in. Hard to find now, so jumped on this when found on Amazon. Same as older one except color. Ordered stainless hinge set with it, installed them, and now good to go. I get about 3-5 days ice retention in 90+ degree weather and 5 to 7 at a colder 50 and less. Here in Texas those temps might both be on same day. For 60 bucks I get one day less ice life than friend's Yeti at 5 times the cost. Plus the Igloo has hard handles rather than the worthless, imho, rope handles on the designer brands. ... show more

I own the older 70qt version of this cooler that’s light blue with a white top. I was shocked to find my 70qt maxicold cooler was on par with my yeti tundra. So I took a chance on this 50qt to keep in my vehicle. I couldn’t be happier. It has a thick insulated lid, and a latch to keep the contents from spilling if it tips over in the back of the SUV. These coolers keep ice as good as any of the best in the market at a reasonable price, they are easier to transport, and you can purchase replacement parts. I think so highly of these coolers that I always upgrade to stainless hinges, latch, and lid stop cable. I love that it’s made in the USA too., ... show more
