Bought three of these to ship frozen salmon from my place in AK (temp: 53) to my place in NV (temp 95). I lined the cooler with bubble wrap to add a bit more insulation and cushion the filets, in order to protect the vacuum packs. Also, added insulation strips to the seal between the lid and the case. I laid 8 Koolit (solidly frozen) on top of the frozen filets. Since there was 6 inches of unused space between the interior of the lid and the top of the frozen items, I placed jackets, gloves, and some bubble wrap there. I did this to provide a bit more insulation and to prevent the salmon packs from being damaged while being loaded and unloaded by baggage handlers. Then put the coolers in a walk-in freezer until taking them to the airport. Unpacking them 36 hours later, everything was still solidly frozen for transfer to the house freezer. The coolers seem to be solidly built and sustained no damage during transit. ... show more

Really happy with this cooler. Was looking at the Yeti stuff too, but it's just a bit rich for my blood - I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard. The good news is, as well as this one feels and has performed, I have a feeling these Igloos do just about as good a job as any, and they're half the cost of similar sized premium brand stuff. Purchased this for our week-long camping trip this past summer in Michigan and it was perfect at keeping all out food cold. It has the convenient drain plug near the bottom to help drain the water once the ice did melt, but otherwise the ice lasted a few days and only had to buy additional ice one time for the week. Bought this for a roadtrip and did an ice test beforehand. Loaded up about 20lbs of ice (it can hold more) and drinks. Cooler was inside the entire time and kept ice for 3.5 days. Drinks stayed cold through the 4th day. Really, this is all I need since the cooler will be in the car/hotel most of the time anyways. It was waaaayy cheaper than a Yeti or Rtic and does a great job. Nice, cheap alternative to the way more expensive ice chests. This ice chest doesn't keep your ice frozen as long as those more expensive ones but for the price you can't beat it. I like the look too.
