  • Perfect for a nice long weekend of camping
I want to have good drinking water at the campgrounds I visit locally and absolutely refuse to purchase bottled water. Campground water is typically potable, but I often don't like the taste and simply prefer water as a beverage over other options that take up room in my cooler. Since many road crews use these I knew it had to be a solid, sturdy product that would maintain cold water and remain durable if handled with care. It's more expensive than one you can buy at a large chain store, but those can't even begin to compare to this product in those same categories. You get what you pay for - this is a prime example. I use water from my Brita to fill this and also make 8 sizeable blocks of Brita ice from the disposable plastic containers that lunch meats come in. I took it on a 3 night trip recently and the blocks of ice were still nearly 1/2 intact at the end of the trip. I will fairly state though that the weather was a bit cooler than normal for the season and my campsite had complete shade. As far as it being in a warmer environment for a 3 night trip I doubt the ice blocks would still be maintained, but am reasonably sure that the water would remain at least on the cooler side if kept out of the sun as much as possible. If being used for a day trip on a very hot day you'd be fine with having the water ice cold all day with already cold water going into it with a few ice blocks. I have a hitch mounted bike rack on my Jeep and when the bikes were removed it made a dandy place to hang it so that it could be easily accessed. If you are planning on using a full 3 gallons in this be absolutely sure that it is placed on a completely level surface while in transport. I had mine slightly leaned back on top of a plastic tote on my front seat and it started to spill out of the top a bit. Thankfully I had only gone a few feet from my home when I discovered the problem. Once leveled out evenly I had no further problems. The lid does not screw on (which likely caused the leakage I experienced since it was leaning back a bit), but does stay securely in place with the white handle. My only regret about this product is that I didn't purchase it a few years back. ... show more

  • I go† this for my Gardener
I wanted to make sure my gardeners had access to water when working in our hot outdoor temperatures in Arizona reach an average of 110.00 but can be hotter than that too during the heat of the day which they usually quit for the day at that point, but when you physically exert yourself in even lower temps it can cause heat exhaustion real quick. I took it to a "water store" and bought a 2 gal water jug to just purchase the water at .30 a gal of purified water. and then I also purchased a .99 - 8 lb bag of ice they make there at the water store too. I put all the ice in the cooler which fit perfecting and then poured about 1 gal of the water over it and closed it up. I gave this to both of them on Sat when they were at one of my properties and on Tues the following week they came to do my yard and they still had ice left in the cooler they told me. This is kept in side the truck during work which can get hotter than outside and it still had ice in it 3 days later so it lives up to it's hype of keeping things cold a long time. This is much more practical in the long run after your initial investment. I recommend a water store, but you can also use the filtered water from other sources too. ... show more

  • Just the right size
I checked out youtube and other websites to see which beverage cooler would suit my needs. One guy conducted a temperature test and the rubbermaid version won out on that experiment, but by only a few degrees. The reason I decided to purchase this unit is because the lid doesn't screw on, which in my opinion could be problematic down the road. I have some small 1 gallon beverage coolers that I have to fight with sometimes to unscrew so I didn't want to deal with that situation. I like the simple push on and pull off lid. I have this sitting in the bed of my truck, and the handle is in the upright position to keep and secure the lid in place. I mainly purchased this to have fresh water available to drink anytime I need it and the 3 gallon size is more than adequate and the 5 gallon size is a little overkill for my needs and more difficult to lift into my truck full. This one cost a little more, but its suppose to be heavy duty and should last a bit longer than some others. ... show more
