The Cobweb Receipt - This Ain't Your Granddad's Dorm Fridge My 2-Year Update Experience Ok, so I’m pulling the "cobweb receipt" on this one—we’ve had this Igloo 3.2 Cu. Ft. Single-Door Compact Fridge since March 2024. While it looks like a typical dorm fridge, it has been holding up in a much tougher environment than usual in our covered, walled-in back patio. Even being subjected to extreme heat and cold, the black finish still looks brand new with no scratches. Special note: I’m not sure if it is intended for this environment, but that’s where we have it and it’s running well. The Performance (The "Thump" and the "Hum"): • The Seal: When you close it, you get that satisfying "new car thump" sound. It requires a little tug to get open, which I love because you know for sure it’s actually sealed when you walk away. • Noise Level: It stays silent in the background doing its duty. You really have to stop and listen to hear the mechanical hum; it doesn't dominate the space like some small fridges that "squeal" or "squish.", like it’s gargling. • Durability: I have a busy family constantly going in and out of this thing, and it has handled that high-traffic use which it should. Internal Observations & Maintenance Note: The inside is solid and the shelves are sturdy. So, I did notice about an inch of ice in the corner recently, but I have the temperature dial set all the way to "7." I suspect the ice is simply because I have it on the coldest setting combined with the freezer door maybe being left open. It’s a good reminder that if you see frost, you might just need to dial it back a bit rather than assuming the fridge is failing. Our Uses: Beyond your typical use, this is our go-to secondary storage for cold packs. If you use ice packs for a sore knee or a workout, you know they can dominate your main freezer space—this is the perfect dedicated spot for them. So far so good. Came completely undamaged and packaged completely reasonably well, so the other reviews that it came damaged may just be their local shipping carriers. Super simple and easy to use. One knob to control the thermostat. Fairly small freezer portion, like stated in the description, but perfectly fine for some ice or a handful of tv dinners. Could not be more perfect! My fridge died, (along with everything in the freezer) -- got this next day (super-fast delivery). Arrived in perfect condition -- not a single scratch, dent, or ding! Unpacked, easy enough for this 78-yr-old lady! Plugged it in -- works perfectly (and quietly). Saved me from lugging ice for my insulin!! and kept cans of Coke Zero (an addiction of mine) and quite a few food items cold for 2 weeks -- until I got a new fridge. I will come back in a few days for an update for so far, I am disappointed. I got this Monday, switched the way the door opens, which, was not very easy, it seems that it wasn't actually made to switch even though they say it is. I had to ghetto attach the door on the bottom because one piece wouldn't come out of the metel and wouldn't line up with the screw holes. Wow. I am perturbed about that. Then, i deliberately didn't plug it in until this morning. You are supposed to wait 24 hours to plug it in after it's moved and I waited 72. It's supposed to be low energy and doing research on it, it should work absolutely fine with my solar system yet, it doesn't. And trust me, i have enough battery power and solar power. What's more, it's not only draining my battery, it's not getting cold. Now, i have a proper solar controller and inverter and run fans and more on the battery with no issues. I've even asked the AI if my solar set up should support this mini fridge, it says yes. And i did the math myself. It should work. But..... Update: it shorted out and also ruined my laptop that was plugged into the same new extension cord! Now my laptop is fried!!!! I can't believe it!!! And I already tore the protective covers and tape off the fridge and switched the door. I doubt i can return. I can't even.... My laptop is seriously fried.... ... show more
