  • Fun and re-playable
Style: New York & London
Get On Board: New York & London- A Flip & Write Game, 2-5 Players This game is well designed and exquisite. There are two maps, NYC for 2 players and London for more players. Each player will build their bus route and record the passengers, locations on their score sheets. There are 50 score sheets in the box, double-sided. There is a website to download the pdf and print more if the score sheets run out. ... show more

My fiancé and I are gamers and found this to be really boring. Played twice and didn't find it to be enjoyable.

  • Let's Make a Bus Route
Style: New York & London
This is a reworking of an older game that's hard to find called "Let's Make a Bus Route" that I like a lot. There are a few extra rules and bonuses, and this time there are pieces that go on your shared board that help a little with making the game a little less disposable, but there is still definitely a disposable element to this with the player boards that could have been avoided had the designers/producers wanted to make scoring it a little easier. So this is half "roll and write" and half avoiding the problems that come with that genre, as you still have the paper elements that act as a timer on how many times you can play this game before you run out of components. That aside, this is an excellent game, as is the original. While the box makes it sound like it contains a mini-expansion with multiple maps, that's really just a question of player count - you use one side with two or three, and another side with four or five. Components are good enough, the maps are colorful and busy while still providing the information you need in order to play, and the player boards are pretty self-explanatory. It can be overwhelming for some, but if you focus in on a strategy - completing your personal goal, focusing hardest on one type of passenger, etc. - it can be manageable even for those uninitiated to hobby board games. Unfortunately, the rulebook makes a few mistakes in terms of clarity. Knowing how to play the predecessor, I quickly adapted to the few changes in rules, but the types of passengers are not explained particularly well. The students go to universities, the tourists go to tourist attractions and the businessmen go to office buildings. Saying that makes it simple to understand some of the pathfinding and scoring...and they don't do it. Instead, they largely refer to things by pictures without giving them names, and the schools look like museums and the office buildings are simply blue rectangles. While they try (by grouping them), by not explicitly making it clear what the icons are to represent, and giving them separate boxes on the board, you can't explain one without the other. It isn't done well. So this could definitely be better in two regards - making the game either entirely disposable or entirely tokens, and by clarifying the rules - but I think the game is so much fun that I can overlook those to a certain extent. There are laminating machines, and there are videos online; neither one is a solution that is ideal, but they both work. This is a quick, light game that offers simple rules, and enough alterations to the rules that will allow you to avoid the instant-lose conditions while still providing fun for every age. ... show more

  • Remake of, Let's Make a Bus Route
Style: New York & London
Overview: Players complete to create the best bus route and the different types of passengers you pickup along your route, while trying to 'deflect' the events that give you negative points. Players: 2-5; BoardGameGeek community feels this plays best at 2-3, but for me the higher player counts are more interesting and challenging, in a good way. Avg. Playtime: 30 minutes Age: 8+ + A common feature with flip-n-write and roll-n-write is that on your turn, your actions trigger what others can do on your turn. A popular roll-n-write, QWIXX, everyone has the same scoring sheet. This came NOT everyone will have the same scoring sheet...which is interesting. + Game is limited to 12 turns, which you're trying to rack up the points better than your opponents. I like games that limit the rounds/turns so in a single gaming session you could choose to play this multiple times. This is key for me, because I'll always try a strategy and when I don't do well, I immediately want to try again with a different strategy. + Easy to learn, even for non-gamers. -- The main complaint I have is after 5-7 plays it starts to feel samey. The only way to bring some 'variety' to this is to play with different people. > Some people who want an 'easier' puzzle will prefer flip-n-write games like "Welcome To...". Why? My wife's frustration with Ticket to Ride is when other players block the route she's been working toward for the last 20-minutes. With this game you aren't fully blocked but have to deal with traffic jams, which can cause delays in a game with limited turns/rounds...some may not like this. I personally don't mind it as much, because that means you have to pay attention to what others are doing and who is trying to get to a particular intersection before you. For me, the more the game is not a multi-player solitaire game, the better. > You need to focus on the Goal from the get-go. It determines your entire strategy for that specific game session. If you don't follow your goal, you won't do well. I prefer games where you can use a different strategy and ignore the goal and still do well...in other words make goals optional not required. OVERALL: I like this game a lot and it's fun and it may or may not stay in my collection due to the samey feel after multiple plays. But for now it's fun and easy to teach non-gamers. ... show more
