I bought these blocks, and I liked the results enough to order two more. I think you can expect a couple of very good ones, and one or two good ones with good color or figure, and one or two that are very usable blocks without much color or figure. They are hard as heck. I had a few checks that took some CA glue but finished up very nicely. Mine didn't look like the picture but I didn't expect them to. They did exceed my expectations. Don't expect exhibition grade, but you should get a few good ones and even the weak ones are worth at least seven bucks! Overall a great deal on some good to very blocks. Nice wood, but 2 pieces had big voids, and all pieces were undersized, at 1.25"x1.75"x5.25"

    • Really inconsistent.Some good, some bland, one numerous deep large checks.
Third time I have bought from this seller. First time, great wood. Second time, very bland wood. This time....One piece incredibly checked and useless, one piece very bland, three pieces good. Oh well. Thought third time might be as good as first. My mistake.

This wood is good quality. One block made scales for both of these knives. Not really burl but still has a nice distinctive look. 4 of the 5 were near perfect and one had a small section of yellow white that I cut off but was still able to at least 1 knife handle with it.

Excellent grain in the wood. Really pops with a bit of lemon oil. I assembled the blocks, sanded them to a smooth satin finish, and then bought scales to assemble the base. Last step was a rub or 2 with boiled linseed oil. Brass tack heads catch the guard bar on the razors and holds them securely against the stand. Turned out great. ... show more

Very nice desert ironwood burl wood, I use it on some of my knives, and it’s very well stabilized and very good material for knife handles…. Especially the four piece for one price set… can’t go wrong with this stuff
