Works well. Much better than synthetic balaclavas. Breathes and wicks away sweat much better. I wear glasses, and had hoped that it would help keep my glasses from fogging up...it is better than a synthetic one...but, I think it is simply the physics of warm moist air hitting cold plastic/glass and they fog up. Update. I am raising this to a 3. I wore it to shovel snow in 6 degrees. Even though the front was soaked from the condensation from my breath, it was still quite warm. I think a size range, rather than a one size might alleviate some of the issues. Definitely lower the back. I am very disappointed in this. The one thing it has going for it is it is merino wool, which is the best. If I have this covering my face, it digs into my eyes. If I pull it down to stop that, it is too tight on my nose. The back does not come far enough down. The front does come down nicely. The tags are placed in the worst possible spot, the side of the neck. I can't completely remove because they are sewn into the seam. Now they are cut, they rub my neck even more. All in all, I am very disappointed with this product I had high hopes for. ... show more

This appears to be a great thin wool balaclava. I run really hot so I only ever want the thinnest balaclava. I bet there is a thinner one out there in some synthetic but this is very thin and light. The back of it could be longer. The back of it just barely covers my entire neck but this really isn't a problem for me because collars on my jackets always provide overlap. The bad bit about this balaclava IMO is that it isn't really hinged. I had assumed that flap going above the eyes and the flap going below the eyes remained separate until reaching near the back of the balaclava. When separate it allows you to more easily pull the bottom half down below your chin or under your mouth. Despite there being a seam which makes it look like it could be hinged it is not, the top half and bottom half are sewn together right where they meet. ... show more
