    • Cool idea, but not easy to use
Maybe guys would have an easier time using this ice maker. I got things all figured out - mostly how much water to put in and how to keep the center bucket from rising. But separating out the center bucket once the ice cubes are ready and actually cracking the cubes loose are pretty challenging. Maybe a guy with bigger, stronger hands would have more luck. We’ve since bought a little electric ice maker and plan to use it to make ice and this item’s little bubble-bucket to store the ice in our trailer’s small freezer when we travel. ... show more

    • good size & number cubes, no fridge-flavors; wants 6.5" vertical space, but can use 5.5"
I was pleased with the size and quantity of cubes and the ability to keep out fridge-flavors. The instruction for filling was harder than I wanted, I preferred pre-filling the bottom just over halfway up the first cube (to the top of the first cross-channel) and then inserting the inner bucket. Unfortunately for me the height with lid is 6.5" but my min-fridge freezer compartment has only 5.5" of vertical space, because the lid is inexplicably designed to trap 1" of vertical airspace and cannot be pushed all the way down to eliminate it. Fortunately I could just replace the lid with plastic wrap for freezing and then leave the outer bucket off for storing (although the lid just sits on the inner bucket like a sheet, no fastening). I cannot think of any useful purpose of the 1" of vertical airspace designed into the lid, and I wish it came with something to seal the inner bucket without the outer bucket. But since I can make it work in 5.5" anyway, I will keep using it. ... show more

I love ice! And since my rental doesn’t have a fancy fridge with an ice maker in the door I thought I’d try this for fun and ease of use. It is basically as good as most as-seen-on-TV type items — just alright.

    • Fun new ice tray!
This is a neat little product! It’s easy to use and doesn’t take up a lot of space. About the size of a eddys ice cream. Taking the center piece out is tough so I have to let it sit for a second or slowly pry the ice away from it but being flexible, it makes it a little easier to wiggle out. My hands just get cold so I get a towel. This is the only reason for dropping a star. I still kind of rate it a 5 just for the fun of popping the ice pieces out. The ice is the perfect size too. Not too big/thick but big enough to last a good while in a cup. I chew ice and these are a good size to suck a little then crunch when it melts away a bit. I always hated the traditional ice cube tray size. Did I mention the center piece is an ice bucket?! It holds about 5 full ...ummm .. trays?! Idk but you can fill it 5 times with ice to store and one in the mold. Hopefully I explained that well enough! Better than having to fill it every time you get a drink. The New Ice Genie it looks good and it makes ICE in about 4 to 6 hours. the Genie so far is makes 24 ice balls and you can store another 24 balls in the blue bin but on the box it says it makes 72 balls. Not sure were they get 72 balls when it only can make 24 at A time and hold 24 at a time. The Ice Genie has three parts the blue bin for store the extra ice and the part to make the ice and the cover. The blue bin goes into the part that makes the Ice. The problem I see with the item is when you fill the outer part with the water to make the ice the blue bin is some how starts to rise up and the water sinks to the bottom of the outer bin. you also have a lid to cover the Ice Genie but is hard to cover it and sometimes when you put the lid on it makes the blue bin rise and the water sinks. The price is not bad but this item does not work the way it should. One good thing about this ice maker is it saves space. The one that I got is New and Improved but I like to know how the old one worked as to me it does not look New and Improved. Have a bless day. ... show more

It does what it says in the description, pretty straight forward in making ice cubes. I like the ice genie, however I wish it came in a mini size or various size chambers for the ice. I needed ice cubes since my place doesn’t have an ice cube maker. The cubes are larger than I expected but that’s not really a bad thing if you like big ice cubes. All in all it gets the job done. I have a smaller refrigerator so the container takes up a lot of space. This is fine for a bigger refrigerator, but mine has a small freezer section so I wish it can miniature. I read other saying it’s hard to close but honestly it’s really not that hard at all. I made the mistake of filling it too high so initially it was hard to open, but I just bang it around on the counter and it knocks them free without hassle. I’d buy it again, but especially if it came in a small version. ... show more

    • poor inexplicable design
You need to push the lid down onto a soft base, which tends to compress the base and force the inner chamber back up. Why the lid isn't simply a screw top I don't understand, and would largely resolve the issue. Otherwise works ok, I guess.
