  • Many plusses few minor negatives
I bought this guitar because I haven't had a Jazz guitar in a long time. I read lots of reviews and the guitar meets my expectations. Some reviews say it doesn't distort but that is not true. It easily overdrives my little Vox battery amp. I've had it a few days and now have the amp and guitar dialed in to get a great flat jazz sound in spite of light guage strings which I will swap out for tens. Working on a version of My Funny Valentine based on Stan Kenton's arrangement. The only other complaint is rough frets but that seems to be common in overseas built guitars, they go away with use. One person described the sound unpluged as like a parlor guitar which is not true, closer to my other electrics when unplugged. There is no 60 cycle hum which is a big plus. The finish is interesting to say the least. I'm glad I bought it. ... show more

  • Adorama Has Been Very Supportive
In a previous post, I described some issues I experienced with my new Ibanez AF44TF guitar. In this post, I'd like to commend Adorama for their prompt support. They offered to refund my payment and accept the guitar in return. And they are giving me $25 for my troubles. I'll be fixing the guitar on my own, not a big deal. Have tried to dial it in to my liking. I do love the guitar's looks. It feels comfortable, although the accoustics are not that good. I recommend the guitar if you always play plugged in, and Adorama as a company.is great. But I have to say, this isn't much of an acoustic guitar. Maybe should have been more hollowed out, I don't know. Now, I'm in the process now of playing with strings to bring it out some. It just doe not sound like a good acoustic guitar, sorry. Simply, it is not a good acoustic guitar. Does have magnetic pickups, which helps if you like to play plugged in all the time. ... show more

  • may need a little work
I read some the reviews for this before I bought it, so I kinda knew what to expect. It a good looking, great sounding guitar but unless you got one fully setup, you may have some things to consider. Mine came in a lone guitar box, (as in not inside of a shipping box) so I was immediately on the alert for major problems. After a quick inspection, everything looked well-enough for now. Upon playing I noticed the frets ends were kinda rough, and in several areas I noticed the fret buzz so many others were complaining about. The neck looked straight so I checked the frets with a rocker and found that at least five frets were buzzing. I think I can do all these things myself so I decided, after much deliberation, to keep the guitar. ... show more

  • Great and VERY Playable Guitar
I've played some Ibanez guitars before, and was generally unimpressed. These were solid bodies, and always felt the guitar felt like an economical version of a better guitar. So, why would I buy this one sight unseen? Hope, I guess. Upon receipt, the guitar was more attractive than the pictures show. The matte finish has a very rustic look to it, and is somewhat darker than the pictures showed. I loved it. However my love was just beginning. Upon picking it up and tuning it, I found one of the most playable guitars I've ever had, reminding me of a Guild I had many years before. The neck is perfect, especially for someone with larger hands. I play mostly rhythm, but use the full neck extensively, lots of chords on the 7th through 12th frets. Anywhere on the neck, I found the guitar to perform well beyond my expectations. I highly recommend. ... show more

  • It was great at first
It was great at first. Guitar came with some packing materialunder the bridge. The guitar played great until I took out the packing material and now I cannot get rid of the extreme fret buzz. It doesn't matter which way I turn the knobs to raise and lower the bridge, the buzz is still there. Basically the guitar is unplayable now, and it is passed the time when I can return it. ... show more

  • Great guitar at a great price.
Regardless of the very affordable price, this has become one of my favorite guitars. I like the pickups, I don’t need to change them. The guitar was setup pretty good. Not perfect, but good enough that I haven’t yet bothered to do a full setup. The guitar and pickups allow a very wide range of tones. I would definitely buy again if something happened to this one. ... show more
