Bought this bass because I have been a 4 string electric and upright player for 30 years and wanted to try playing a 6 but didnt want to buy a expensive one just yet. I was very pleased and surprised with the build quality and finish. the neck is great and very consistent, straight and has no irregularities. the maple top was not as nicely grained as the one in the picture but its good enough. there is string buzz with current setup, maybe because I play super hard . I am going to replace strings with labella flatwounds and probably raise the action a little. I was really surprised at how nice this bass is for the money. if you just gave it to me and made me have to guess how much it cost, id say $500-800. I am not a huge fan of is the electronics. the pickups are ok and there is a little bit of hum happening. the voicing on the passive tone control might be better, the active knob just mostly cranks up the volume, which is cool if you play rock, but not that great for subtle changes in tone. its fine for the price. over all this is a good instrument and really great for a beginner bassist. its good enough to play on a pro gig too. I may buy a more expensive 6 in the future but for now I am pretty happy with this thing. ... show more

Muy buen instrumento, mi hijo la persona que utiliza el instrumento, que más cuerdas están separadas del diapasón, ya lo regulo como dice el manual y lo utilizo 2 veces y se volvió a separar, quiero saber si es un defecto de fábrica o que tiene algún problema que se pueda resolver

I'm a 40+-year player who switched to 6-string a decade and a half ago. I picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago as a backup bass because my Ibanez SR-506 6-string needed to go into the shop for some electronic maintenance. The GSR-206SM was a reasonably attractive 6-string with a familiar neck profile, size, and shape. I had tried going back to 4-string in the interim, but I've developed too many fingering habits on 6-string that didn't easily lend themselves to backsliding to four. The price of this bass made it too much of a temptation to pass it up. I found myself pleasantly surprised. The neck is the typical thin Ibanez 6-string shape, very comfortable and fast with the typical SR 6-string spacing that I'm used to. It has a little more of an asymmetric wing profile than my 506, a little thinner on the treble side than on the bass. It's only one-piece maple vs the 5-piece bubinga/okvangol neck on my 506, but it's solid and well-built; it's not attached with the angled neck pocket like their better basses, but the neck joint seems plenty stable and tight. The underside of the lower end of the fretboard is not quite flush with the body, but the gap doesn't present any problems. This is a 22-fret neck instead of the 24 frets on their better instruments. The jack is on the butt end of the body rather than recessed into the front like their better basses. The body is gloss-finished mahogany with a maple top; the spalted maple sunburst looks really good. The bridge is lighter and cheaper than on their higher series, but I have no complaints with it. The electronics are like a Jazz bass (with one addition). There are two passive single-coil pickups (some height adjustment available), two separate volume controls, and a single passive treble roll-off tone control. The smaller knob in the picture is for the Phat II preamp; I thought it sounded terrible in the store, but it does pretty well in the real world. It pushes bass and treble (mostly bass) while notching the mids slightly. Being passive and with inexpensive pickups, this bass doesn't have a hot signal, but adding the Phat II supplies considerable boost. I'm probably going to put a Bassmods preamp in it later because I prefer more modern controls and wider tonal range, but it's decent enough for now. (Bassmods makes a preamp harness with a volume/pull-passive knob, pickup balance knob, midrange, and a bass/treble stack that will fit in the same four holes without having to drill more.) I'm not sure what strings are included, but they're decent. A set of lighter-gauge DR Low-Riders would do wonders for this instrument, though. For the price this bass is most impressive. It's not a top-line pro axe by any means, but it's quite a respectable instrument. I gave it five stars for the EXCELLENT bang for the buck. The workmanship is better than the price would suggest. The neck, in particular, is better than on many 6-strings I've seen that cost far, far more. The electronics are not stellar, but they're quite usable. If you're looking for a backup instrument or a first 6-string to test the waters, I haven't come across a better one for the money. This won't go into the closet when I get my 506 back from the shop; I expect to make good use of both basses together. ... show more
