I recently tried out the Hyperlite Women's Indy Vest, and it’s very nice. I use it for kayaking since it has good range of motion. Sometimes I don’t wear the vest, I just attach it to my kayak or use it as a pad for my seat. I’ve also used it as a flotation device while just chilling in the lake with friends. I was searching for a vest that combined comfort, quality, and style and this met my needs. The upper portion has a nice thick padding, the lower portion is made up of three layers of buoyant material which dries fast. Since I also use this vest for floating in the lake with my friends, it can sometimes become distorted and I have to work the three layers back into their normal position. But, this is because I use the vest outside of it’s normal use. When used normally, it doesn’t get distorted or anything and works exactly like it should. If you hang the vest, it dries really fast. If you just set it down it will stay wet for a loooong time since there is water between the layers. Overall, it’s a nice and comfortable vest that I would recommend. ... show more

As someone who lives near water and enjoys different water sports, from boating to jetskis and tubing, it is imperative to have a well fitting and comfortable PFD. My family and I have worn many different brands and types over the years and it just seems like Hyperlite knocks it out of the park every time. The vests they produce fit well, are true to size, are all day comfortable, and have almost all the features we enjoy while out on the water. The zipper and buckle closures are the only way to go for fit. We have tried buckle only and were less than pleased with the fit. The zipper on this (and other Hyperlite vests) are large tooth and smooth operating. The buckles are tight and have a reassuring "snap" when engaged. They release easy as well. The foam panels used for the vest aren't too thick, something we run into with other vests a lot. The thin profile makes it easy to move around and grab controls or ride on tubes without being cumbersome. The only feature I wish this vest had was a clip for the jetski or boat safety switch. We currently use a ziptie fastened to the buckle, but other vests we own have them sewed in, and it is a nice feature. Overall, great vest, great fit. ... show more

This is such a nice life vest but runs very small. I am 5’9”, 135 lbs and I cannot even close the vest to zipper it. I ordered a large thinking it would definitely fit but maybe a large is really a medium? I decided to give this to my Mom who is 5’4” & 114 lbs and it was so tight on her. This PFD is fairly lightweight and the foam is much, much more flexible and comfortable than old-school models. Order the size that you typically get in clothing: L/XL t-shirt? get the XL life vest. The outer material is soft and doesn't chafe when wet, and so far, dirt seems to rinse off of it really easy. It dries about as fast as older types. This PFD is level 70 of performance/comfort (see photo), i.e., it is best suited for active, nearshore activities such as boating, SUP, canoeing, or general safety in nearshore environments. Since it has all-round floatation so it doesn't flip you onto your back in the water; that means that this PFD is also suitable for snorkeling. I don't love: -- For kayaking, it's a little bit too long...maybe order a size down if that's its intended use. My comfortable size XL is okay for very relaxed paddles, but when I dig in, the shoulders rise up 2"-3" and get in the way. Generally for kayaking, I keep this PFD in the hull just to maintain lawful accordance. --all dark colors on the outside are not ideal for visibility. Personally, I added some neon/reflective tape to a few places for added safety. ... show more
