  • Pretty Sweet Portable for the SNES/Super Famicom
Just came across this product thanks to Youtuber “MadLittlePixels”. At first, I was making my doubts since most retro consoles like the ones from pre-AtGames with the Sega Genesis retros were shown to have terrible performances from both built-in games to games you can play with physical cartridges, but after taking the time to watch over the review, I sense that this is a product worth obtaining. So, grabbed one without hesitation and gotta say, it is the best portable retro I’ve used since I can play my Super Famicom games on the go. I’m already playing Puyo Puyo Tsuu and Super Donkey Kong (also known as Donkey Kong Returns for SNES) endlessly on it. Anyway, that’s all for the positive side. The only downsides are the the consoles being only capable to hook up through RCA, which is pretty outdated in the modern era, sound quality being only good, but not great, the screen quality being the same like in a Gameboy Advance, which causes me to both raise brightness to max and tilting the console on the right angle, and last but not least, the L and R feel weird to press since I grow accustomed to pressing them like I would on a Super Famicom controller or Switch controller rather than side slanted angles, which is concerning for those playing games like Street Fighter 2, Doom, Mortal Kombat 2, Akumajo Dracula (also known as Castlevania 4 on SNES), etc. Anyway, hope those features get improved. But on the brightside, this is a great portable to take on the go. For all the SNES/Super Famicom gamers out there, highly recommend picking this up if you’re on a budget and can’t afford both the SNES and Super Famicom. And yes, it will play Super Gameboy games, too. As for cartridges, it’ll play anything. Real ones, repros, PAL, multi-carts, you name it. 👍 ... show more

  • Far from perfect but worthwhile
So like my title says this device is far from perfect but it does what I bought it to do and I am enjoying it. The upside is being able to play snes or super famicom carts on the go. The pros are that you can plug it into a tv and plug in multiple controllers into it. Thats awesome and works great. You can switch from 16:9 to 4:3 display so you dont stretch the image. Thats also cool. You can play japanese or european games. The downside is the tv out is still RCA which in 2020 is less than desirable. I would like to see a model with hdmi output and upconversion to at least 720p. Built in bluetooth would be great so you dont need to purchase an adapter to get wireless controls. A kickstand would be nice. Usb type C would be better for charging. Also SD card support so I can transfer Saves from Cartridge to Computer would be amazing. If these features were added I would consider purchasing a newer model. For now I am happy with the Black and Gold edition but there is still a lot left to be desired. ... show more

  • Hyperkin Supaboy Black Gold
This console is amazing, not going to bore anyone with details or specs thats all been said they are phenomenal, I have absolutely no cons on getting this device its incredible. Reasonable price for what your capable of playing on this device. Portable SNES awesome that plays not only NTSC games but PAL games opening an entirely new market for specific game titles that were only released in Europe. I believe it also supports Japanese Famicom cartridges as well as indicated on the box however I'm curious enough to find a cartridge and try it out in the near feature. I thoroughly appreciate the screen features turning it off while playing a game connected to the TV screen, using wireless controllers outstanding by the way. The sound is loud enough to definitely hear it but through the AV its perfect going from tv to optical out then receiver. Overall its an amazing addition to any gaming enthusiasts collection looks incredible next to the Sega Nomad complimenting each other while displaying them on a shelf. Since this is a limited edition nab up at least one for playing and if possible another to keep cib unopened for the next ten years. Perhaps longer depending on this amazing market of collecting vintage video games. ... show more

  • Fantastic console with some flaws, some people will love it, some will return it (reluctantly).
I really wanted to like the SupaBoy. Despite it's relatively high price tag (another $90 gets you a Super NT, the best SNES ever made), it's almost worth every penny. Unfortunately, it just didn't hit the mark for me. I spent three hours with Super Ghouls N' Ghosts on the hardest difficulty. This is one of my all time favorite games, and probably one of my most played games; I chose this game so I would know EXACTLY how it should be running. The d-pad is stiff, so your thumb gets fatigued faster than it should. It also has a tendency for phantom presses, mine liked to press up or down easily when trying to press left. The control buttons felt good and pressed will but missed an input here and there. The shoulder buttons felt a bit disappointing when pressed, but not a huge deal. It doesn't feel too heavy in the hands, even with a cartridge in it. The emulation is alright. It doesn't look amazing, but honestly I was happy with the visuals. I did, however, notice more slowdown than normal. The screen gets plenty bright and has the option for 4:3 or 16:9 resolution. The colors were good but again not amazing. Everything looks like it has a smoothing filter on it. The console has video out, but via a 3.5mm jack to composite only. For this price I would prefer mini-hdmi, but that's not a deal breaker for me. I didn't try any repros, fx chip games, rom hack carts, or homebrew games (I don't have any of those at the moment unfortunately). The three games I played before boxing it back up were Pilotwings, Super Ghouls N' Ghosts, and Drakkhen. I've read that it can struggle to read some games, and since I just ordered a whole bunch of strange stuff... I figured there was a good chance it wouldn't play a number of my games. I really, really, really wanted to like this. Despite it's flaws, it is a slick looking console that feels good in the hands and simply oozes "cool." If youre playing mostly RPGs, easier games, or ones that don't require precise button presses and timing, then I highly recommend this. If you're not quite as picky as I am, then I highly recommend this. Of you want something that will--for sure--impress your retro-game loving friends, then I highly recommend this. It's not for me though, and I am deeply saddened by that. ... show more
