  • Perfect for the casual hardcore (Update)
2 months update: Still works great. Controllers still work and feel great. Still love this system, I haven't found a game that doesn't work. But I found some issues, mostly with the NES color pallette and I won't lie some games just look ugly (but not all them?) Not so much the case with SNES games. I still stand by my 5 star review though, I've invested over 200 hours on this playing games like Final Fantasy 6 and Secret of Mana. Also it's super easy to take with you to a friend's house, which I've done a few times now. But I'll admit I'm starting to want a analogue system since I am investing so much time into these old games. I do not regret this purchase in the least it was a great starting system to get back into these old games and in don't feel rushed to invest the $200 for the analogue since this works so well. Original Review: So I like to consider myself a "casual hardcore" retro gamer. I like to enjoy the games I actually collect. I really wanted to get back into NES and SNES games, but I havent owned a Nintendo or Super Nintendo since 1997. When I saw this system there was no reviews or even YouTube videos, I knew nothing about it. But I do own the Hyperkin MegaRetroN and so I took a leap of faith, which I don't normally do. I purchased the Retron 2 owning zero games for either system and after ordering the hyperkin, I ran to my local retro store and picked up 15 total games and also a SNES multicart and a some reproductions games on ebay. I've had these games about a week with these games now. So how is it? This system is almost perfect. The game cartidges pull out easily in both slots, so no death grip like the MegaretroN, which is good since SNES games usually need a eject button. Both the controllers are excellent with long cords, I personally forget that they aren't orginial controllers. Though I would recommend a 8bitdo and a Bluetooth receiver eventually, but these controllers are excellent until then and they won't piss off Player 2 when you do get a 8bitdo. As for input lag? I have played Street fighter 2, Mortal Kombat and Mike Tyson Punch out and I never felt I lost due to delay button presses (but you can blame lag if you want :P) If your TV has a "game mode" like mine does i recommend turning it on Sound and video is where the critics knock this system around. Hyperkin systems has a little extra color saturation that may turn off people, but I enjoy the richer color myself. The 4:3/16:9 switch is a good option and the game looks amazing on a HDTV at 720p. Other than what the coins sound like in Super Mario Brothers on the NES (which sound... interesting on the hyperkin), I couldn't tell you which sounds or music sound different or sounds the same, sorry but it's been too long since I played these games. They sound good over all thoughand after playing Super Mario All Star for the Super Nintendo I can safely say the SNES sound and music is spot on. I would recommend Madlittlepixel YouTube review to hear the sound difference and see the difference in color saturation. But something to keep in mind with these "small issues" the retron 2 has and that the hyperkin 2 is two systems for $70. That's $35 for each system, compared to $200 for one system for the analogue FPGA system.. But for $70 you are getting alot! If you are a die hard purist, well I'm sure you already have a RGB mod or Analogue. But if you're like me and you found your old box of games in the attic or just want to casually collect games and don't want to break the bank for a system that is easy to install, sounds and looks good on a HDTV and will bring you back to 1994? Then you cannot lose with this system. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Batteries Not Included
When ordering this product, I was under the impression it included all parts/cables necessary to use the system. No cable was provided to power the device. After discovering this, I saw this in the fine print: "Includes 6 ft. Micro charge cable and AC Adapter. If AC adapter is not included, We strongly recommend that you use a USB wall AC adapter that has a minimum output of 5V 1A.". Overall, the pictures posted are misleading for this product. I'll have to order an AC adapter to be able to use this product. 1. S-Video, not HDMI - The picture shows an HDMI port. I was even given an HDMI cable. There's no HDMI port to plug the cable they gave me into. 1. A usb adapter that plugs into the wall was provided, but no USB to AC wire. ... show more

  • Best NES/SNES HD Combo System
I am very persnickety so you can have confidence in this 5 star rating. I have trialed several clone NES/SNES models and this is currently the best. I had been waiting for Hyperkin to release the NES/SNES combo HD system for quite some time. One critical aspect for me is compatibility with one of my favorite games Castlevania 3. This is in fact compatible with Castlevania 3 with the exception that the audio is slightly altered, but that is a minor setback. Most clone system are not compatible and it will not even play. So far every NES/SNES game that I have played with this system on my HD TV looks and sounds great. I do also like the appearance and how Hyperkin modeled it after a true classic SNES console. One of the main complaints with Hyperkin systems are the pin connectors are tight. This is in fact the case, but it is not really an issue if you know what you are doing. People often break the connectors. This is easily avoided if you ease the game cartridges in gently and also remove the cartridges slowly and gently by removing on a slight angle by pulling one side up first then slowly lifting the rest out. Thanks Hyperkin for finally releasing the combo system. I am a vintage NES and SNES enthusiast and very happy with this modern HD clone. ... show more

  • Double the system, for double the fun.
Purchased two for sake of testing. Tested a number of games for each snes and nes on both. Results were much better than expected 100% of the SNES games played, with 0% graphical glitching. Even Games with their own FX chips, like Star Fox, played Prefectly. Of all the NES games I tried like MEGA MAN 6 and Legend of Zelda, they played Prefectly and looked so much better than I had expected. Recently added some super famicom games to the collection, among them being Dragon Ball Z legend of the Super Saiyan, Mega Man X3, Rockman and Forte, and Super Metroid. All of which play perfectly. The only one that is a bit difficult to play is Dragon Ball Z legend of the Super Saiyan, as it is more of an RPG based game. Thankfully walkthroughs are available on most gaming websites. ... show more

  • Wrong Color Arrived & NES Games Don't Sit in Console Good
I ordered the gray color and the black and purple one arrived. But it's fine. Not the end of the world. I would send it back just to get the color I wanted but I don't want to wait another week for its arrival. The NES Game compartment doesn't fit right. The NES Game slot is kind of difficult to snap the NES games in place. It feels like I'm going to break the plastic body when inserting a game. I do it super carefully. Sometimes the games start up very slow and I have to re-insert the game in just for it to start up correctly. But if this lasts at least one year I will be happy. I look forward to collecting more NES and SNES games maybe Famicom ones too add to this collection. ... show more

  • Quit working after 7 months of light use
I purchased this system in May of 2021. I have used it approximately 15 times for NES and SNES game play, for about one hour of game play each session. Yesterday I was unable to get the NES side of the machine to work. My cartridges are clean, and when I tested the SNES side it worked fine. This is not the level of quality I expected out of the Retron 2. I am extremely disappointed. ... show more
