    • Awsome! Humminbird makes the best fishfinder!
I'm extremely happy with this fish finder and am looking forward to all the advanced features. This is quite an upgrade for me coming from a 5" screen, non mega, non Side or down imaging Lowrance Hook. I was very interested in the ability to network this with my Ipilot Minn Kota trolling motor, which I found out I will have to upgrade to the link or advance GPS Ipilot model, but at least I'm set up on the fish finder now, less to upgrade in the future. I can't wait to tell the fishfinder where to go and let me just concentrate on the fishing. I was going to settle for the G4 MSI / MDI non networking model because of the difference in price, but then one day I logged on and saw this G4N model on sale for $244 off the normal price, making it the same price as the non networking model, the only thing is I would have to wait 6 weeks to get it for some reason. It was such a good deal I was worried they weren't going to send it to me, like it was a glitch or something but they did, and it arrived earlier than they said. I will have to wait a few months to use it on the water since its 15 below zero in Minnesota right now and all the lakes will be covered with ice until May, but I hooked it up in simulator mode so I can learn how to use it before actually getting out on the water, what a cool feature that is! I am amazed at the quality and resolution of the Mega Side and Down imaging, they are not exaggerating on the ad photos! This thing has all the features I wanted and it's intuitive and easy to use too! Those fish better look out this summer, they won't have a chance hiding from me! ... show more

    • Features are out-dated
The unit does what it says it will, but there were a couple of issues I had with its capability. The first is the lack of "dock-to-dock" navigating. I like to explore in new areas, and being able to zoom out on the map, click the destination and have the GPS navigate me all the way there is something I value. And it might be too much to ask for, but I want it to tell me when I'm in a no-wake zone, and ensure I'm somewhere that the depth is appropriate. Unfortunately, I assumed I'd have that feature, and didn't research it, so its on me that I didn't get it. But I don't understand why that is difficult to get in any unit under $1000 when I can get a $50 car GPS from walmart and it will give way more intricate driving directions to travel across the country. The second issue is the lack of touch screen. This I can forgive, because saltwater-proofing touchscreens is probably expensive, but this seems very out-dated, and something that would be very useful. Especially since it links with the minn kota. It's a pain to scroll with the arrows over to a spot on the map, and click to get the trolling motor to take you to that spot. Touching the spot on the screen would be much easier. In fact it would be much easier to touch structure in side-scan mode and mark the spot so the minn kota can take me there without going back to the chartplotter. Which leads me to the next point, I haven't played with it enough yet, so I don't know if this is possible, but when I'm in side-scan mode, I wish you could put in some parameters to identify (like things bigger than 5 ft) and permanently mark structure on the chartplotter automatically. If I'm in a new area and just want to mark rocks, the computer should be able to identify potential rocks and mark it so I can come back to it. Again, I don't know that I can't do this yet (**Edit, you can do this with the cursor), but as I pass something on sidescan, and see it, I have to go back to the chartplotter, and try to mark the spot to have the minn kota take me to it. It's unprecise, and I think it doesn't need to be. I had a boat a few years ago and switched to a motorized kayak with the minn kota (Old Town Autopilot), and my kids started to show interest in fishing and boating so I went back to a boat. I wanted everything to work together and spent what I thought was enough money to get the things that I wanted, and I realized I needed to spend more money to get these things that should be easy to do (especially the navigation issue). I will admit my fishfinder/chartplotter expertise is lacking, but I'm not sure anyone is a complete expert in all of them. ... show more
