Description

SPIKA is the perfect all-purpose axe for the forest life. It has the same type of head as the Hults Bruk Akka forester’s axe, but the handle is shorter - 17.5 inches long - making the axe more portable. The shorter handle also allows for working with the axe closer to your body. The axe head is hand forged at the historic Hults Bruk, a forge that has been in operation since 1697 - blackened, hand-finished, razor-sharp with a polished edge. Each axe head is made from high-quality Swedish axe steel, expertly tempered to hold a very sharp edge even after repeated sharpening. The curved handle is made from American hickory, sanded and protected with linseed oil and engraved with the HB logo. The axe is ideal for precision work such as carving, whittling, or building fire stands or shelters around a camp site. A well-proportioned hand notch allows you to grip around the head and steer the axe with maximum control. The semi-straight edge with a flat and wide grind allows the axe to rest firmly against the work piece. With its slightly curved edge the axe can be used for light forestry work such as clearing a path or trail-maintenance. The head is slightly thicker over the cheeks, giving it good splitting capabilities for chopping firewood. The axe also features a curved narrow handle with a pronounced end knob for a more secure grip.

  • Great axe
It's a cool axe. just need to maintain it as it's a traditional axe. need to care for the wooden handle, axe head after use. would recommend an axe overstrike guard as the handle could be damaged, and linseed oil for both the axe head and handle. overall, it performs well.

  • Best Axe I’ve Owned. Best Axe I’ve Owned.
First impression: This thing is beautiful. The hickory handle feels like it was shaped by hand, not a machine. The head has that raw, forged look that screams craftsmanship. It’s not flashy, but it’s got soul. In use? It bites deep and clean. I’ve taken it camping, split kindling with it. It’s light enough to carry all day, but heavy enough to get the job done. The sheath is solid leather—no cheap junk. It’s the kind of gear you pass down, not toss out. If you’re looking for a mass-produced, throwaway axe, skip this. But if you want something that feels like it has a story, this is it. ... show more

  • Sturdy, good looking and functional Sturdy, good looking and functional
This is a great little hand axe. It is a large hatchet. Very well built. Looks good and feels good in the hand. I had. A video of me chopping up a partially rotten stump that was in the way of our zip line we were making. It split into the stump well and was durable enough to lean on to break it up. Very functional and performs as needed. Also looks amazing. The case is a nice addition. I recommend it for someone looking for a rustic looking hatchet that is also functional. ... show more

  • Sharp, quality, and something I will pass down to my son. Sharp, quality, and something I will pass down to my son.
I buy a lot of things for my camping setup, and one thing that is often overlooked by companies is the packaging and attention to detail. I was incredibly happy when this hand axe showed up in a nice box with the company story inside. It might seem minor but I love little details like this. One of the best things I noticed when taking it out of the package was the smell of leather from the blade cover on it. You can tell it's a quality leather head cover that is going to age nicely and get darker with age. My only complaint right out of the package was that the handle had a small splinter type burr on it that I felt in my hand but I didn't lower my overall score on it because I was able to just hit it with a small piece of sandpaper and it was gone. The handle will break in over time anyway. This thing is a nice balanced weight in my hand, its nice and sharp, easy to handle and it went through my first round of firewood like butter. Kindling was way easier to make with this compared to the Gerber it replaced. The last thing I will say about it is that I love the back of the axe head being nice and wide so I can use a piece of wood to whack on it to split wood easier. My old hand axe was very narrow on the back and the wood I was hitting it with would slip off really easy. I will for sure be picking up one of their full size axes to handle some of my bigger splitting. ... show more

  • Beautiful handcrafted heirloom tool that will do the job for generations Beautiful handcrafted heirloom tool that will do the job for generations
This is a beautiful, heirloom tool that I will pass on to my kids. It has a perfect heft and swing, and splits kindling and chops perfectly. Honestly I feel a bit guilty using this to chop and split, but it simply does the job better. I bring it with when we go to our cabin in the cascades, and use it in the backyard in Seattle to prep fires for family and friend gatherings. It’s a sharp, functional, no- no nonsense tool that does the job better, and looks amazing above the fireplace at the same time. ... show more
