I needed a bookshelf to keep, and have easy access to, my books. I used to just have semi-organized stacks of them in different parts of the house. I was primarily looking for something that can hold a lot of weight, if it looked nice, then that was a bonus. And of course it also had to be affordable. I honestly had a hard time finding one that satisfied those requirements. This bookshelf by HSH met those requirements and exceeded my expectations. At first I was skeptical because the shelves were made of MDF. I've never been happier to be proven wrong. Each of the shelves on mine holds between 90-120 pounds worth of books. And the shelves don't even bend. This is because of the metal crossbar support that runs the entire length of each shelf. All the joints are connected by thick bolts and the whole thing was very easy to assemble. It took me 30 minutes to put it together. The shelf was packaged well, had styrofoam protecting all 4 sides, top, and bottom. It includes everything you need to put it together, plus a small bag with extra hardware in case some small pieces get lost while building. I'm very happy with my purchase. It's a little on the high-end of my budget but after seeing what the shelf is capable of, I accepted the price as fair. If ever I need more shelf space for future book purchases, I'll gladly purchase another one of these. ... show more

Only 4 stars. I wanted to give it 3 stars but I’m happy, I’d buy again. In the end it’s a sturdy good looking shelf. Now for the cons; bring your own tools. You’re going to need an electric screwdriver with an Allen wrench bit. A 3/8 inch socket wrench would be helpful during one step. The instructions appear to be written by somebody with an extremely high IQ and poor communication skills. It appear to be some sort of mathematical formula to decipher. According to the instructions, there are only two steps to set this whole thing up. The shelf has about 50 pieces ( including nuts and bolts )... that’s a lot of information to cram into two diagrams and eight sentences. The shelf is really easy to set up, it’s not difficult at all. It’s more difficult to interpret the instructions than it is to assemble. The shelves are hollow. During the assembly process I had one shelf laying on the floor. I stepped on it and I felt my heel sink in and heard a tiny pop. I weigh 170 pounds. There was no visible dent or crack. There was one part that I couldn’t screw the bolt into. Fortunately it did not stop me from assembling the unit and I will get a replacement part. I wanted to give it three stars because of the hollow shelf and the horrible assembly instructions, but the end product is fantastic value and would be a 5 star if not for everything else. ... show more

First, I would like to state that I have purchased over the years numerous shelving units (on the less expensive spectrum) and often it takes little, if no time for the shelves to begin their "saggy shelf" look. Even though they have not stood the test of time, It appears that this will not be the case with these shelves. As for assembling the unit in the wee hours of the morning (insomnia :( ) I read the instructions (something I have learned over the years as being somewhat helpful if you are a "ADHD Tigger sort of person) ANYWAY the suggestion of using the cardboard box as "padding" to limit noise and damage to hard flooring was great as I am sure the inhabitant of the apartment below me would agree. The instructions DID say that two people were needed/recommended. Difficult to find if you are assembling it at 2 a.m. alone. That being said, one CAN do it alone, maybe not as easily but it is possible especially if one is really tired of their favorite books being in plastic totes. In summary, I am extremely pleased with the price, quality and ease of putting the unit together. ... show more

I ordered two of these on Prime Day for my art studio because I loved the modernness, "openness" and height of them. And I saw in their product description photos they had two pushed together and thought that looked so great! But I am amazed at the quality, I am so impressed. I swear the shelves are real wood, and the metal rails are solid. And I have never found anything so easy to assemble in my life! The first one took an hour, the second one took 30 minutes. (The best advice in the manual is don't fully tighten the screws until everything is assembled, worked like a charm!) Everything lined up perfectly with a bag of spare parts in each box included. I'm still in the process of adding things to the shelves but it's clear that they can hold quite a lot and are very sturdy. The anti-tip screws/mounts included are nice but won't quite reach my wall so I will figure something else out (because the cat is 100% going to try to jump on one of these, lol).
