Description

This book is for newcomers to the exciting art and science of saltwater pier fishing. Particularly in the Fairhope, Alabama, area. However, the material contained can be utilized on just about any saltwater fishing pier. All that changes is the species of gamefish and bait utilized. One will learn the minimal equipment needed to saltwater fish like a local as well as practical tips and tricks to catch and land the “big one.” The author, himself, has caught many a large redfish with standers-by asking what all he utilized. Thus, this book is more geared to catching the larger species than anything else. Although, one never knows what one will catch on some days in Mobile Bay, Alabama. After reading this work one should be able, with practice, to fish as good as a local and know the right questions to ask when purchasing gear or fishing the Pier. There is nothing like catching a huge saltwater gamefish for the first time—it is a memory that will last a lifetime. Read more

  • Endless website urls
Format: Paperback
I was excited to get this book, I wish I would’ve read the reviews. It’s double (maybe triple) spaced and looks like it was published from a word processor. There are errors in the graphics, and pages are full of web links, some of which are 3-4 lines long. The whole thing looks like a rushed term paper that had a page requirement vs word count. Moreover, it doesn’t appear to have an original idea anywhere. I’m promptly returning this. ... show more

  • A great amount of info on what you need to have with you to be successful.
Format: Paperback
For a first time pier fishing enthusiasts, I found the book a little overwhelming with the be prepared to catch a monster the first time out. I guess that’s a good attitude to have. I was looking for a little more instructions on fishing. Good book if you are just starting out and live close enough to a pier to fish often. ... show more

  • Okay book, but very MESSY! Okay book, but very MESSY!
Format: Paperback
I got this book because I am a complete beginner and the other reviews were good. I don't see how this book could have 5 stars with it being so messy. I wouldn't be surprised if the other ratings are friends of the author. Looks like a school report done in Word with a bunch of links. I don't think anyone is going to be typing in these really long links into their browser. That is something for a PDF book. Not a printed book. Just very messy. ... show more

  • A wonderful reference guide
Format: Kindle
I live in Fairhope, and on my morning walk on the Fairhope pier, I met the author. We chatted for a while about Fairhope, fishing, and random local stuff, and he was kind enough to share a copy of the book with me. Though the book's style may not be Pulitzer noteworthy (commenting based on other reviews), it is a wonderful reference guide for those who love to fish. It's an enormous time saver, and has greatly helped me in fishing education and ventures. ... show more

  • Worth the cost
Format: Kindle
It mostly covers what we know already. But it has three or four tricks that were new to me, at least. I fish the West coast but the advice applies just the same.
