  • This is a great Book, and it will teach you what you need to know
The book starts off really slow, but don't gloss over the exercises, you will definitely need to build on them as you go. The lessons build in intensity with the exercises and counting until the last two lessons, where it will catapult you into the world of Bass. If you have understood and practiced each section carefully during the last week, the excitement is hard to contain and tremendous restraint is required on day 13 to keep you off of day 14 until you really own the previous day. Day 14 has you playing a couple of intense songs which are really good, throwing in all the tricks. The last song, as they say, "is above your paygrade", but a real delight to practice for the days to come. When you have played the Day 14 songs until you own them and start goofing around after the 1 beats, you are ready to get into a local band that is preparing to gig parties and similar events while the band tightens it's chops together to start clubbing. You will have done everything you have to know how to do with the book, (Rhythms, bends, Hammerons/pulloffs passing notes, etc), then it's a matter of spending time putting them into the songs that the band wants to play. Record every practice with the band, and work in the things you learned between jam/practice sessions with the band. Practice hard until you get a set, and you'll never look back. ... show more

  • Great Book With A Misleading Title.
Anytime I see a title and/or description that promises amazing results on an instrument in a very short time I laugh. HARD. Many times when a beginner (who this book is aimed at) does not accomplish what the title misleadingly promises, it causes them to give up when all they really need to do is take the material very slowly and at THEIR OWN pace. Promises of shortcuts to glory are NEVER true. This book is a perfect example of the old saying about if things sound to good to be true..... I'm a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, mandolin, ukelele, keys, several woodwind & brass instruments) who started playing guitar and bass in the mid 1970's. I can tell you that becoming an accomplished musician takes years of dedicated time and work and continues for the rest of your (musical) life. Based on all those years of experience, and having purchased and looked at this book I can tell you with certainty that if you are a beginner at bass guitar you may learn SOME bass playing in 14 days using this book but you ARE NOT going to even be ready to just jam with others. Now having said all that, the book is actually a very good book material wise. So if you disregard the misleading title and the pressure to learn to master the bass in just 14 short days and take each lesson or portion of a lesson at your own pace this book will serve you well. Also remember NOT to try and completely master each portion before moving on. When you can play each example with few (bit still some) mistakes then move on to the next example. The one star deduction is for the misleading title and also for the fact that the book is in TAB format ONLY. I am not anti-TAB but I do believe that to be a fully skilled and well rounded player of any instrument you need to learn to read standard music notation. So this is another way this book fails to teach basic necessities of playing bass. If you don't have unrealistic expectations based on the misleading title this book will help you on your journey to learning to play the bass. ... show more

  • Too difficult on day two.
This book went way too fast to learn anything as you couldn't practice as you were trying to learn. Too advanced for a real beginner.

  • Very helpful book, a good learning plan
I am an experienced guitar player but want to learn to play bass, so I have a pretty good knowledge of music theory. This book has definitely helped me, I am about halfway through and I've discovered that bass is more of a different instrument to learn. The lessons are manageable, but instead of 90 minute sessions I've found it's effective to go through a session in 30-40 minutes, then repeat it the next day for another 30-40 minutes. The early lessons are a little boring, but you build on the early stuff later on. I definitely recommend this book. ... show more

  • it's not bad
If you have just picked up a bass for the first time and are looking for some direction beyond tab videos on YouTube, this is surprisingly decent. Though If you have been playing for any amount of time at all this book is most likely useless to you.

  • Great Start
I was the last person to ever think I would learn bass from a book and not video instruction, but this is a well written book and it definitely broke the ice for me! It is a must buy! So good, i purchased the pentatonic scale version as well. The included audio clips make it 100% worth every penny. Listen as you read, then play it back. ... show more
