  • Very well done - comprehensive
This was very informative. Information was presented in a clear easy to follow manner. I have no building experience and have only tackled small repair jobs in the past, but after reading this book I am confident I will be able to build my barn and work shed. Great read, really well done.

  • A good reference for ideas but not a great guide for building
I bought this book to find plans and details on how to build small barns and buildings for my new farm. The book is helpful, but what I really wanted and needed were more detailed drawings. This has drawings, but they are not large drawings and don't show a lot of close up detail. It's a good reference book, but for the details of how to frame it I will be relying only partially on this book and using other books, such as Graphic Guide to Frame Construction, for better detail. I also was expecting more plans to be displayed and for the book not to be as wordy. Several other construction books I use rely heavily on illustration for explaining details. As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words." And in a book explaining framing and construction that saying is so true. This is a decent book to add to your collection and will be helpful, but in retrospect if I had a chance to leaf through the book first I doubt I would have bought it. ... show more

  • very informative
I thought i knew how to build a shed, having built three from the ground up. This book has taught me so much in just two days of reading. If your looking for a book to teach you different types of plyboard, how to lay out square buildings or where and how to construct a barn or shed , then this is your book. Highly recommended reading for anyone trying to better inform themselves about the art of building. ... show more

  • Needs to be updated
The content and information of this subject are excellent and it is well written. It would be so much better if they revised it with modern photos or at least illustrations. I would recommend something more recent instead of this book.

  • Just what I needed, better because of the pictures.
This is a good book. Does NOT provide a step by step introduction to how to build things, but does offer SOME steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops. ... show more

  • Good book for some.
I really like this book, but wish it had more smaller projects. This is a good book and tells how to do a little bit of every general construction aspect i.e. foundations, plumbing, framing, electrical, etc. I guess I was expecting a book with more detailed plans on more numerous smaller projects, with less detail of general construction principles. I was sort of looking for a book that provided me blueprints and ideas, rather than how to build a few select buildings in detail. Mostly my fault on this purchase and not un-glad I own this book because it does have some valuable knowledge in it. I would recommend it to anyone, but just wasn't exactly what I was searching for. ... show more
