Description

Select the right performance parts to get the most power out of your Hemi engine with guidance from veteran author and dyno-testing expert Richard Holdener.Fitted with the right high-performance parts, these powerful engines can produce far more horsepower and torque than stock. Selecting the ideal parts for the engine and application is essential. Richard has done the research, gathered the data, and provided a detailed analysis of the results. Within the pages of How to Build New Hemi Performance on the Dyno: Optimal Parts Combos for Max Horsepower, heads and camshafts, headers and exhaust, intakes, throttle bodies, manifolds, electronic engine controls, forced-air induction, and nitrous oxide are all tested. Using this comprehensive information and the dyno results, you can select the best performance parts for your engine and application. Each test provides a thorough description of the parts, test engine, and testing conditions, plus evaluation and insight into the results. Tests from budget to high-end engine builds are conducted to fit a wide spectrum of applications, so you can apply the testing data and results to your specific build project. Horsepower and torque graphs illustrate dyno test results for clear comparisons. In turn, it takes all the guesswork out of selecting parts, which saves you time and money. The word Hemi conjures up visions of racing and street domination. Widely regarded as one of the greatest American V-8s ever produced, Chrysler released its third- generation version of the engine in 2003 and installed it in a wide range of Chrysler cars and trucks. Through the years, the 5.7, 6.1, 6.2 Hellcat, and 6.4 Hemi engines have established an impressive high-performance reputation that builds on the proud heritage of the engine family. Most stock Hemi engines produce an impressive one horsepower per cubic inch, but they can make substantially more torque and horsepower for specific applications.Although the New Hemi produces excellent performance in stock form, it’s just the starting point. With the right parts, you can build the most potent street, street/strip, or full-race engine. Whether you’re building a mild street Hemi, a race engine, or something in between, this book is a valuable resource. Read more

Very informative

  • Great Resrouce If You Have The Right Expectations
The book is basically a compilation of dyno tests using mostly 5.7 based hemi engines. Lots and lots of good data can be gleaned from this book with a little critical thinking about your specific application. This book is not a how to book necessarily. You won't find any information or tips/tricks about Hemi engine assembly, or much about parts interchangeability between the different displacement versions. What you fill find though are a series of well conducted, semi-scientific tests that you can use to learn a lot about the Hemi engine family. My one suggestion for improvement would be to incorporate more OEM part swapping data. For instance, a test of a 392 cam in a 5.7 vs stock. Just incorporating more budget minded builds would be appreciated. That being said, if you are on a budget, this is still useful. They do multiple tests with a Comp 268h cam, which is very similar to a 392 cam in specs, so you can glean some information from that. Overall, great book to have on the shelf, very happy with my purchase, hope Mr. Holdner published more on the new hemi! ... show more

  • Full of recipes for the New Hemi, with dyno runs to show how and where power is made.
This book is unlike any of the other engine books I have (about 10 Vizard, Madigan, and a few "one of" authors) in that there's very little narrative per chapter. Holdener instead makes few changes to the shortblock, documenting those changes briefly, and treats each component of the longblock separately. Heads, each of the various types of intakes, headers, nitrous, and turbos all get their own chapters, with dyno runs showing how the pieces perform comprising almost the entire book. If you want torque, the New Hemi has plenty as is, and there is distinct winner amongst all the choices of intake available if more is desired. The thought of more power available in a physical size comparable to, and interchangeable with the LA Mopar series (they use the same bellhousing pattern, save one bolt, similar to the LS Chevy) makes the New Hemi a tempting item for a swap. This is the reason I bought the book, to see what could be done. ... show more

  • Could be about any modern engine.
Just the basics. Since being published, there are more aftermarket performance part options available that aren't covered. Don't expect super detailed info. Notably about tuning your vehicle after adding performance parts. That's a Bible in and of itself! In the camshaft chapter, for example, He doesn't talk about the need to delete the mds with a tuner, replacing solenoids with expansion plugs , and non-mds lifters along with using a Comp Cams phase limiter or lock-out for HEMI's with VVT. I did enjoy reading it though and it did influence my decision to spend the extra money on long tube headers. So, yeah. I'm not bummed. ... show more

  • Lots and lots of fantastic dyno tests.
His book was exactly what I was looking for, that is, horsepower combos for late model hemi’s.
