My kids have been through about a zillion plastic laundry bins because the handles always seem to break under the pressure of the massive weight of the clothes they weigh them down with. I thought perhaps this might be a good solution as the basket itself is quite light and the wooden handle looks fairly sturdy. The handle is, in fact, reasonably sturdy and so far this basket has stood up to the amount of clothes that gets stuffed into it. It's also nice because if the basket is not in use, it can be collapsed for easy storage. Therein, however, lies the problem. The basket itself is pretty flimsy and does not stand up very well on its own, certainly not when there are not a lot of clothes in it. As it becomes fuller, it stands upright better, but still has a tendency to tilt to one side or even fall over (thereby spilling out the clothes in it). The problem can be somewhat mitigated but not entirely ameliorated by propping it against a wall or piece of furniture. I have yet to find the perfect laundry basket - durable handles, not too heavy, but sturdy enough to do the job. This one is probably no better or worse than others, it's just a matter of what problems you want to deal with. My son is happy enough with it, so it will do the job for now. ... show more

    • Simple laundry bag that stores flat

This laundry bag looks nice and is nice for a 'simple' or 'natural' sort of decor. It isn't very large but it is very useable still. If I lay a piece of standard notebook paper flat against the opening, each corner of the paper touches the rim to give an idea how big around it is. That means my jeans will get stuffed into the bag just a bit. But there is still room to put them in folded over a couple of times. The handles are flat braided. They seem to work fine - but I like the look of a round cord better. I don't know how the bag will hold up to wet items. It is fabric on the outside that seems to have the liner melted to the inside of it. Sort feels like it is laminated on the inside only. The only rigid part is the top rim - the rest of it is just the fabric sewn together, but the liner is stiff enough to hold the bag in a barrel shape, with or without clothes in it. The liner is soft enough to allow it to be crushed flat for storage also. I think it is a nice bag - a little smaller than I'd prefer for my needs but it will work. I will likely squish my laundry into it to make it hold a full load. ... show more

I am one of the lucky ones who gets to cart laundry up and down steps. Invariably when I’m struggling with carting that laundry is exactly when my cat thinks it’s a great time to run up and park himself on the steps in front of me (I keep explaining to him that if he kills me he won’t get fed, but he just gives me an all-knowing smirk). Some hampers are too big/bulky to easily maneuver when full. Others, like a very expensive one I tried recently, flop over and won’t stay open when trying to load or unload laundry. This laundry hamper is well suited for my needs: It’s lightweight, but sturdy. It’s made of a sort of waxed/coated canvas. The handle is secured very well. It stands up when empty. It doesn’t fall over easily when full. It’s attractive. And, if needed, it can be folded. It holds one very large load of laundry with no problems.
