  • Poor Man's Helix
Size: Ampero II Stomp
The interface may not be as polished as the Helix, but it's pretty easy once you get used to it. I own a Helix LT and a Powercab 212. I had another rig that used to be analog, but I kept coming back to multi effects units, and then I landed on this one. Like the Helix, the stock sounds aren't my personal preference. I like very simple presets where the amp is the main course, and then a little reverb/boost/compression to season it up a bit. I think this unit may beat the Helix in this aspect. It will at least go toe-to-toe with it. It does lack the processing power of the Helix, and don't even try the pitch shifting. If you want crazy wild sounds and want to fill up every effect bank high DSP effects, you'll be disappointed. It can get overloaded, and it's not always clear that you're running into a limit. I like that there are some unconventional amps and effects that were modeled, like the JCM900, a clean Plexi, a couple Dumbles, the old Marshall stomp boxes. You also get different voices, like a Mesa Dual Rectifier or Bogner with vintage or modern voicing. It's like you get the best from the Atomic Amplifire, Boss modeling, Helix modeling, and Positive Grid. And if you'd like to break out your old rack preamp, this has power amp modeling. The amp organization, It has them categorized, and they sound very convincing. I don't know if it's standard, or if it was just my particular version, but it came with Celestion IRs loaded. This is where Line6 has been lacking, and man do those IRs sound good. So if you're looking for something like the HX stomp, your needs aren't super complex, and you want to save some money, this unit is a good value. It deviates from some of the more standard models, but everything is very useful. They haven't tailored their product to any specific genre, but it's also not overwhelming. I have both the Helix and this unit, and since getting this one, I've found myself gravitating more towards this unit. I'd totally recommend this if you want high quality sounds at a more affordable price than the big names. ... show more

  • Very nice unit
Size: Ampero II Stomp
I've had this for a few months now. I was originally just using it as an effects unit on my pedal board and using a UA Dream 65 as my amp modeler. Which sounded great. But I was craving some marshall tones and decided to try out the amp models in this unit. I landed on the JCM 800 for dirty and put some od pedals in front of it. Sounded fantastic. I then set up a dumble amp for clean and slightly overdriven tones and it was a nice complement. I added the Ampero Control to this and I'm basically set now for live gigs. I've got two expression pedals, one controls volume and the other controls the mix for delay and reverb so I can go from relatively dry to very wet just with the exp pedal. For those of you complaining about this thing not having scenes ( I used to be one of them ), with the Ampero Control, you can approximate scenes as you can send a series of cc messages to turn certain things on and off. This works very well for me and I'm no longer concerned about scenes. Things that need improvement: 1. The tuner isn't up to par, I've had to add a poyltune to my board as this thing isn't precise enough. 2. The touchscreen is responsive but the buttons are small so it's not always great to navigate certain things. 3. You can run out of DSP when using dual amps before you fill up all your slots. ... show more

  • So far fairly decent!
Size: Ampero II Stomp
So far it does sound decent, if not really good! Two days of trying to replicate my patches from another multi pedal with good success! I had purchased the Donner but was not impressed with the sound and really not impressed with the customer support! This is much better, but also more money! My only complaint is the DSP power, I have a few patches that I can't replicate because the unit cannot handle the DSP! The Celestion speaker IR's are pretty good. They have two versions of each, one I will call good, then the other HD! But again if you are already using up the DSP you cannot use the HD version of the IR! Which again has limited me to get what I want! I am not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, but have had some experience with other multi effect pedals! This is the easiest as far as use, that is compared to what I have used previously, I understand there are others that are better in this regard! But so far my biggest beef is the DSP issues! Otherwise it sounds good to great! The more I play with the setting the easier it is to get it sounding better so that might be human error playing a factor. Will update as I use it more! ... show more

  • Can't say enough good about it
Size: Ampero II Stomp
Out of hundreds of different settings this device continues to amaze me. Fx loop? Check Fx in/out in case you want to use your own amp and cab? Check Separate tabs for preamps in case you want to use your power amp section and check out the 50 amps/cabs on the Ampero? Check I can't keep going, there are literally a thousand different combinations for the person who knows what they're doing whether you're intermediate or pro while making it so easy even a complete novice can do this without a single hiccup. This is the device. There is no way this thing should cost 500 bucks. It has everything and everything sounds amazing. That was a lie, the pitch shifters are quite underwhelming. But I've compared my Marshall to the Marshall on this pedal and its basically imperceptible. The digital Klon Centaur is better than my knockoff by far. The Tubescreamers are amazing. It's not a Fractal Audio Axe FX3. But it sounds a lot closer to it than it has any right to be for 1/5th of it. And it destroys anything in the price range of the Axe FX in ease of use. It is so intuitive I don't write many reviews but this one deserves a nod from me. It's the right choice ... show more

  • Intuitive
Size: Ampero II Stomp
This Ampero got me playing guitar again after 5 years away. Technology has come a long way and the engineers of this device not only made excellent sounds, but they placed them into a small convenient and very intuitive to use package. After researching todays tech including, pedals and recording amplifiers and direct competitors of this unit, I chose the Stomp and am so happy with it. The only small hiccup is that it wasn't clear to me that the Hotone driver needed to be installed in Windows for the editor to recognize the device. It is easy to edit settings on the fly on the Stomp, however the editor is a must to really deep dive and tweak your tones. The pedal, and editor are so simple to use even for this almost senior bedroom metalhead rock star. It has all the brutal crushing tones I will ever need. I highly recommend you avoid cheaper floor pedals and recording devices and bite the bullet and pick up an Ampero II Stomp. ... show more

  • A solid device with some major problems
Size: Ampero II Stomp
Ok so here's the thing, I think I got a defective unit and I really wanted to love this thing so much but I couldn't. I got such a good price on it too but there were so many red flags when I tried updating the software. It was so bad and I had to do a reddit deep dive on figuring out how to update it. THEN when I did update it, it just set everything back for this device. Like it sounded worse somehow. NOW that is my biggest gripe, I so wanted to return it and get another one but the hassle of updating was too much for me. It's already intimidating jumping into modelers and I returned it. Overall there is some great tones on here and it is fun to use. The effects are good and honestly like it works how it should. Navigating the website was horrendous too. It barely loads and I had trouble finding so many things. Look I'm not trying to poop on this thing BECAUSE I REALLY wanted to love it and give this a shot over fractal or kemper but just didn't work out sadly. ... show more

  • Will hang with the big boys
Size: Ampero II Stomp
This modeler has been one of my better gear purchases, ever. Its very easy to use, its well built, and it sounds incredible. The tones will easily hang with a Quad Cortex or FM3. Obviously the device isnt as powerful as those when it comes to crazy FX chains or multiple amp presets, but in terms of raw sound it absolutely hangs. The effects are quite good, but I think HX series are better. My only gripe is that it can be difficult to get the PC editor working with the unit, and there are some weird little glitches in the editor they still haven't fixed, but overall I've used this live a few times and it worked fantastically. ... show more

  • Sound quality issue
Size: Ampero II Stomp
One amp model I needed warbled, the other sounded like a kid’s toy amp. The high gain amps sound great but I don’t use those.
