  • Truly amazing to an old cat like me
Style: Pedal
To start off, I'm old. I started playing guitar well before the turn of the millennium. I've owned a real Uni-Vibe, a real Octavia, and many other crazy effects the HX Effects models. I've also tried over and over to like digital models, but have consistently failed to do so - they never sounded right. Only recently - maybe the last few years - have I really begun to hear effects and amps modeled in a highly realistic manner. The HX Effects pedal is one of the pieces I now recommend. With this pedal, I have the old BOSS Compressor I lost, the TS-808 I never could afford, the Octavia I sold years ago, the Uni-Vibe that was noisier than a wind tunnel, and a Crybaby I never have to stomp on to activate. And that's just one preset! I am so impressed by the sound of this pedal - never would I think a Uni-Vibe model could sound so real. You can even mess with internal settings like voltage sag. Truly amazing...and all the models are about that flexible! I very much recommend the HX Effects pedal. I'm so happy with it. The only complaint I have is the power cord, and that's rather minor. Otherwise, a great buy that was totally and completely worth it. You will never afford all the effects in this package...and if you do? They still won't be this quiet! ... show more

  • It is Line 6, but the new Gen of Line6 so, welcome!
Style: Pedal
I used to be a Line6 user a while ago, but as many others, couldn't get convinced on the sounds getting from their units (POD, Toneport, Firehawk), some people loved and still use these units, but a common consensus is in the Drives (OD/Distortion) side. Delays, Reverbs have been for a while easy to get warm/good sounds from digital devices, but Drives are the issue. So let me share to you that this unit /generation (Helix, Helix Lt, HX Effects, HX Stomp & their Rack and Native versions) are quite in a different league, and the Drives do work very well. PArticularly the Minotaur (Klon) & the Teemah (Paul Cochrane's Timmy). Now you can boost and drive your amp with a nice crunch tone and sound degradation, not that fizzy-signal dying we (or at least I) used to listen on old digital units. Of course, if you are into more heavy gain use, it is somehow easier to get a full sound, but when you try to get a just crunched amp, with that somehow transparent driven sound it gets quite harder with old digital drives. Now it's all good. It's relevant to understand that this unit ios for those who have an Amp they love (Tubes, SS, Emulation, don't care) and the HXFX is the unit to have your ceffects and even control some features of your amp (if applicable). In summary, I have several analog pedals (RC Booster, Wampler Dual Fusion, TC Flashback, Keeley Monterrey), and haven't A/B'd with the HXFX, but I was able to dial a good sound without any hassles and time. Now it's as real as tweaking pedal knobs (but, for instance, it's great being able to adjust volume on a wah, which in real life it's not possible), and the great feature that is changing pedal orders just with a drag & drop (HX Edit) or just two knobs. With my pedalboard in order to experiment (not all wahs work well as first in an FX Chain, try it with a fuzz and see the struggle) . So, if I sell my 8 pedals, I can get more than what I paid for the HX Effects, but I have all effects in there. It's a good trade, and if you are more puritan, you can use your favorite pedals in the FX Loop. It's a nice little nifty unit that had solved the following issues: Portability, weight, programming, less noise (try to use a whammy or an EHX picthfork and get the über frequencies), when you power up there are no *pops*, neither when you press a switch, impossible to mess settings on knobs when you are transporting and handling. It's a good tradeoff, imho. Best is that every update you can expect a better working environment & functionality, but the plus are the new pedals they include (and amps & cabs for the Helix series). So, you have the amp you love and wanna keep it simple or complement your pedalboard with all dem pedals, Go for it. ... show more

  • Perfect for what I needed
Style: Pedal
I recently bought a new Harpejji, and knew that I would want to run it through some effects, especially since it has 2 separate outputs, one for bass strings and one for all others. This pedal effects device was recommended by another Harpejji user after he did research on all the options. It does everything that was advertised. Ordinarily, people don't use it to have 2 separate outputs, each with a different effects path, and it was difficult to find out how to do that. The absolute key to working with this device is to have it connected to a computer and using the desktop application to interface and control the setup. I don't think that is emphasized enough on the descriptions. You wouldn't need it to be attached to a PC for a performance situation, but it is critical for setting up the various configurations. For me, I mainly needed one setup that would handle the bass with one effects path, and all the other strings with a different effects path, as if I was running 2 instruments simultaneously through the pedal... which in effect is exactly what I need for a k-24 Harpejji. Anyway, this more than covered what I needed. I only wish it had been easier to find how to setup this rather unique application, and that I had been pointed to the desktop app sooner. Other than that, I love this thing. No longer do I need an effects board with dozens of individual effects devices to plug in and install on the board itself, and there are so many to choose from that operate as firmware on the one single device with 6 push button pedals (up to 9 effects in a chain) and has a wonderful tuner built in as well, invaluable for an instrument with 24 strings! Happy buyer. ... show more

  • I like it
Style: Pedal
I don't really like amp modelers, but I wanted a versatile effects unit so I gave this a try. It's got some interesting in/out options and the quality of the effects seem pretty good, though I am not sure the distortion models are quite what I was hoping for (some of them are better than others). The thing that drew me to this over the helix or helix LT is mostly the size (and the price). You can only use 9 effects at at time, and 6 of those can be accessed from the front panel, but I am OK with that because I don't want to have a gazillion effects in a chain. I like that each effect has a label, also, for quick reference. It is fairly easy to learn, though I have consulted the manual a few times to get the hang of some of the nuances of setting up a chain of effects and using the various ins and outs. Update: at the last minute, I decided to return this and opt for something more versatile, with some modeling options. However, I still think the HX FX is a great unit if you don't need the amp modeling. ... show more
