These are an improvement from some older Hornady Dies I have. I like the threaded de-capping rod. It came with two bullet seaters so one can choose the one that fits the bullet they are seating best. I just loaded some test loads today and they worked very well. It is important to have a seating die that will conform to the bullet you are seating. I bought this set after already owning the same caliber set in RCBS and I prefer this style. The 3 piece setup with the rod makes it way easier to align the projectile with a bottle neck case. So, this is my SECOND time purchasing the Hornady AP .308 Winchester Custom Grade Dies item # 546358! Why? Because 2 reasons, my press timing was a smidgen off when I received it, and my decapping die pin jimmies a little bit brand new. THEREFORE!!! To save yourself over $100 of unnecessary expenses, PLEASE do yourself a favor by: 1) Making SURE that your timing is pretty spot on! There’s no die to precisely align your wheel, but I’ll share a technique I used to ensure my wheel was properly timed. Before I get to get though, I NEED to tell you how to save yourself some a55 pain by having a decapping pin break on you while using the press. First, unscrew the expander/decapping attachment. Then get a small piece of aluminum foil and ball it up to the point that it’ll fit inside the hole that the decapping pin is in, and put the foil inside the expander/decapping pin housing, then screw the housing back onto the threaded shaft that it screws into. To make sure that your pin is straight and won’t have ANY play in it anymore, hold the expander head and see if you can wiggle the pin. If it wiggles, the expander either isn’t on tight enough, or you need to add a bit more aluminum to the inside of your expander housing. Once you have a pin that sits solidly in the expander, you can do the next technique; which could help you ensure your wheel timing is good. I took my depriming die, got a spent .308 round with my primer still in it, fully extended the threads on the deprimer die and put my round on the expander and fiddled with the round until I knew that the decapping pin went into the primer pocket hole. Then I took that round and put it in my press, locked in my configured expander/decapping die into the press housing, and made sure that the round went flush into the expander/decapping die. If my round moved a little bit in order to go STRAIGHT into the decapping pin, then I adjusted my pawls accordingly until my round went right into the die with minimal to no side-to-side movement. Lastly, I tested my work. Thanks to the technique I did, I’ve been able to press out 25 primers in a couple minutes WITHOUT any jams, and the decapping pin is still solid in the expander housing! I hope this helps many of you who too struggled to get your rounds deprimed successfully. ... show more

If you want dies and don’t have specific dies from a specific brand for a specific set of reasons, you want Hornady dies. They make a great dues. First, they make the best lock rings. They are split nut type. They are grabbing the threads concentrically. Literally, I buy these for my custom dies too! The FL dies are short enough to bump the shoulder well. They are smooth. The threaded collet can be locked read center. The expander doesn’t pull necks. I do wish they offered some minus expanders, but almost nobody does. The seaters are really concentric and easy to adjust. I actually prefer the Hornady adjustment to a micrometer. It would be nice if they had a longer sliding sleeve. The only thing better are Hornady bushing dies. That said, you really don’t need those most of the time. ... show more
