Having read a few reviews which gave less-than-stellar ratings to the written instructions, I relied instead on a very helpful video on the product information page. In that video a young lady provided a straightforward and easy to follow set of directions, actually putting in together in the space of one video clip. I was amazed at how well-engineered this model is. No tools are required, and all you have to do is line up the plastic shelf holders, making sure "TOP" is actually on top, and then move them down until they click into place. Wrong position? Easy -- just remove the two halves and give it another try. Overall, I really like this shelving unit. It's very sturdy, and the perfect size for my needs -- I measured carefully before ordering, and am really pleased with its size, sturdiness, form and function. What I am not pleased with is the extra puzzle they included free with purchase, which was laughing entitled "Assembly Instructions." If it were not for another reviewer here on Amazon, I may have ended up returning it. Not only are the assembly directions picture only, they fail to include pictures of the most important aspect of the assembly. Okay, here it is: You take two halves of the included plastic circle pieces, each marked with an up arrow and the word top. So, pointing the top up, you can encircle the leg of the shelf at the height you wish. Lightly push these two pieces together, and slide up or down until you hear it click into place. One leg is done. Do all four legs at the same height, and place the first shelf. Repeat for each shelf. When done, you will have a handsome, sturdy, useful shelf. ... show more

This is 1 inch Pole wire shelving. But of the lightweight variety. The Very good quality but they cut every corner possible to deliver the product. This is better then the Amazon Basics Shelving which comes with horrible Quality Control. At least the shelving was welded correctly for every shelf. The Cons of the product are the Clips are slightly smaller then normal 1" Pole clips. So they saved pennies there. And the wire shelving is the minimum thickness you could possibly get away with. If you need to actually hold weight. Look into their parent company's other brands. These black shelves are good quality, durable, sturdy, and look nice. The black finish is smooth and consistent (unlike some other black shelves I have, which have some patchy or rough jagged spots). My only complaint is that the plastic parts (clips, feet, end caps) emit a strong chemical plastic odor. Unpleasant and gives me a headache. The smell wasn't fading after airing out, so I had to find replacement parts (from other sellers/brands), which fortunately fit and didn't stink. I'm sensitive to strong chemical odors so maybe it wouldn't bother most people, but just mentioning it for anyone else who's sensitive. I've never run into this plastic odor problem from my other wire shelving units, so it was unexpected. Otherwise, really nice unit. ... show more

So many low reviews about the plastic clips. Here is the solution. Take each pole and put the plastic clips around the pole at the desired height BUT, soft squeeze them together and slowly slide the clips up or down slightly until you feel the clip "catch" on the pole and the clip won't move. To many people are trying to snap the clips together just anyplace on the pole. The big tip is make sure the clip says "top" on each clip, place the clip around the pole, don't force squeeze it but just enough to hold the clip together and then slowly slide the clip either up or down until you feel it catches. You'll need to count the grooves in each pole so the clips are in the same place on each pole. Once you've got the clips in place lower your shelfs onto the poles and push down hard and they'll grab the clips and stay in place. Once I figured this out, the shelf went together in less than 10 minutes and is very sturdy. Forget the instruction sheet that comes with it, it's useless. ... show more

Was ready to return these shelves bc the shelf clips wouldn’t hold and kept slipping down with minimal weight on them!! I read one customer’s helpful review with the same problem. Following his directions to put the shelf clips on after the pole is in place, as close as possible to where you want them to be on the poles with the clips “TOP” markings UP ^, and gently and slowly slide the clip up or down til you hear the click in the groove of the pole. Once you slide the shelf over the clip it will secure the clip to not open up. Shelves are then very sturdy and hold the weight without slipping. THROW the directions enclosed with the shelves in the garbage. They’re pretty useless. ... show more
